This is such great advice, Thimbelina. As a mother of four teenage daughters, I completely relate to this situation.

It's never you; it's always the damn boots/jeans/bathing suit's fault. Laugh a little. This too shall pass.

Thanks for the reminder :)

What a great post! My 13-year old and I have had much the same experience trying to find things she likes that fit. It's so frustrating!
Last year she found a Madden riding boot with a built in sock that helped take up some of the extra space. Clothes are another issue. There just isn't much out there in the way of fashionable, appropriate clothes and shoes for the 12-14 y.o. range.

What wise and happy advice. I wish her luck with those boots. This may have to be the year of the bootie , maybe a stompy engineer style.

Just a funny reminder that our mad fashion loves & losses can confound us at any age... Both my girls crawled out of the womb with an idea of how they wanted to dress & look. Not mommy's way. Their own way. And they've never been label snobs or inappropriate or neurotic about it so I've been happy to stand back & see what they do. Lots of fun thrifted items. Lots of repurposed hand-me-downs. Some key purchases when finances allow to express their own style. Well, the youngest one loves shoes & always fancies a riding boot. She's worn an inexpensive pair every winter since she was about six & this year is no different. What's different is that her frame has stretched out and she's a 90 lb wonder with ladies size seven feet. You could stuff 3 or 4 limbs in any riding boot she has tried on. I can see she's frustrated, but she's being a good sport. I keep telling her 'this too shall pass' and 'it's not you, it's the boots' and today the power of those words really struck me! I know a lot of us otherwise sensible adult women regularly go into dressing rooms and say perfectly awful things to ourselves in our heads. Just stop! Talk to yourself like a beloved daughter. Encourage yourself to be patient and know the right boots or garment are out there for your beautiful self. It's never you; it's always the damn boots/jeans/bathing suit's fault. Laugh a little. This too shall pass. It's never too late to wind back the clock & reconnect with the gleeful, life affirming part of dressing & self expression. Anyway, that was my little lightbulb moment in a chaotic boot-strewn aisle of Kohls this afternoon...
