These are riding boots and they are great. I have a pair. I like them best over skinny jeans and they’re definitely commuting on foot 8 hour shoes. They’re nice with casual skirts and dresses if they’re fitted enough through the ankle and calf. They tend to look dumpy if they aren’t in which case you’ll need a small heel, like a low wedge.

IMO, A lower heeled boot looks good with more casual skirts. I particularly like that style boot with a just-above-the-knee wool wrap skirt. They sort of look like kilts w/out the plaid. Some have buckles at the hip, others have fringe where the fabric overlaps. Also, denim skirts would be ideal with a low heel boot.
It works especially well with a patterned tight. If you are a little on the daring side, perhaps a shock of color in an opaque tight, peeking out between the top of the boot and bottom of the skirt.

With what type of skirt/dress is it appropriate to wear a flat knee-high boot, such as this one:

http://shop.nordstrom.com/S/29.....6&P=3

I get the impression that it's better to have some type of heel when wearing boots with a skirt or dress. I love comfort, though!
