The walking shoes I bought for my trip to Europe had this type of sole and a stretchy fabric upper. I wore them a lot before the trip to break them in. They felt okay at the end of each of the 2 long days (not back to back) I wore them, but after the first day I noticed a purplish tinge to my big toenail. I have some Born shooties that very slightly tip up and in general I am learning I don't like that look; the full-down sole to me looks more polished for the rest of my outfits, in general or I might lean toward the leprechaun or jester look. Like Diana says, I think it's just how they're made, and you have to live with the style. The shoe is designed like that so you can't "fix" it.
