Ooh, that's tough. I like them in both colors. I think it really depends on what effect you want with your outfits. I find both black and dark but colored footwear equally useful, and that burgundy is a really versatile color. I'm glad you ordered both. Let us know how it goes!

Gee, this is a tough one! I'm glad you ordered both! You may be surprised and love the way the burgundy adds some colour to your outfits, so I would be inclined to go with that choice and I love how you can see the detail more in that shade.

Glad you ordered both to try... Personally I'd go with the black. They would go with everything and I think they're already statement enough (at least they would be for me). Let us know what you decide!

Thanks for the perspective. I have actually ordered both so I can try them with some outfits and decide which one I like better. If they fit and the heel is not uncomfortable, it is likely they could become workhorses this winter because I know the soles on Docs don't make my feet cold in snow and cold weather. Not that I will use them as snow boots or anything, but in Wisconsin a person cannot avoid walking on cold and/or snow-packed surfaces! And if I wear them a lot, black might be the better choice, as a person can only wear "statement" shoes so often before they no longer make a statement. Then again, I do love the oxblood...

I vote for the burgundy. You'll wear them primarily with dresses, and the dresses are generally black or black and white? Then burgundy. It shows off the look of the boots better and it will be your splash of color.

I'd be inclined to go with the black as it's a more classic Docs look. As Suz mentioned, I don't enjoy wearing colored footwear, though I will happily wear the brightest of colors anywhere else. It all depends on what you're comfortable with. The burgundy would certainly work with the types of pairings you're describing, though.

Can you order them both and try them on with some outfits?

I am sort of tempted to say exactly what Firecracker has said.

I do in fact wear my own burgundy booties. But I know others on here have had problems with coloured footwear at times. Even Aida, who wears light footwear with the best of them, doesn't usually love coloured footwear. And someone with a largely black wardrobe (who wears black tights) might have a hard time incorporating the burgundy even though it sounds as if it will "go" with your other stuff. The thing is, will you look down at your feet all the time and think: FEET. Or if you do that, will it be in a good way or a bad way? ;)

I like the burgundy color, but I kind of like the toughness of the black in this style. I think you could wear either one with the wardrobe you describe.
Maybe I should add that I love burgundy or cordovan shades and wear the colors in clothing. And I admire those colors in footwear on others. But I have two pairs of shoes in this color family that I simply do not wear. I put them on and then change to something else before leaving the house. I don't know why.

I vote the burgundy. I wear a lot of denim, grey and black in the winter and picked up a burgundy pair of boots myself this season to add a little variety. And burgundy and blush go well together, so they'd work well with your jacket too.

The one pair of non-black shoes I have are oxblood red Doc Marten boots. So, though I almost always choose black, I suggest red for you. They'd look great with black tights - very 90s. But I'd be having the same second-guessing as you about the color.

I'm sure others will disagree, but I like the low contrast of the black ones. To me (and I'm quite conservative) these shoes are quite a statement in the black.

I do love the burgundy colour though, so I can see why you're debating.

I am infatuated with these Docs. They may not be comfortable due to the heel, but I simply must try them. In the winter, I primarily wear black - almost always either black pants or a black top - with white or grey or red... sometimes cobalt, and I just bought a natural coloured sweater (oatmeal?). But more often, it is black again with one of those colours as an accent. I have black/grey and red/black plaid pants. And I recently bought a blush leather jacket (I must post pics - it is DIVINE).

When I wear dresses, I like to wear boots, and I almost invariably wear black tights.

These boots come in both black (which I know would coordinate with everything without question) and oxblood/burgundy. The red shows off the boots much better, but I wonder if they would be as versatile, or if that really matters (I have lots of shoes and boots). The heels would be flattering with dresses, but would the red make them costumey or silly looking with a dress (generally a black or black and white dress)?
