I do it, and my legs are short and muscular. It did take some persuading for me to try, and I am careful to make the booties snug at the ankle and try to tone my bootie/ hose to my dress. Not necessarily the same colour but no huge contrasts.

I definitely don't think booties and dresses are for skinny legs only. I wear this look all the time. One tip while your eye adjusts is to wear tights in the same color as your booties or a nude for you bootie with bare legs to give you a long leg line.

I don't think you need skinny legs, but I do think it's a good idea if you like the shape of your legs. Booties and dresses do draw attention to your stems.

I have a short, petite friend with not skinny legs-- and last winter she rocked some booties with skirt and tights looks. She wears above-the-knee skirts (not mini, but shorter than I would wear as seems typical for petite types--I think I'm 4-5 " taller) It really must have something to do with proper proportions, from the bootie style to the skirt length, for the individual body type. Unless you are trying to concoct a whole new outfit, you could go shopping while wearing a favorite skirt and tights and see. There must be something out there that will work.

too funny Mo! this is my favorite way to wear a booties to create a size contrast between the shoe and my legs, since hitting the height sweet spot is so hard...hmmm, yes found photos of me! the bootie from the side will look like mo's and makes my chunky legs less chunky in relation....at least I think so

Aha - I found my 'flower pot' booties post http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....-obsessing

And, the booties that did work, because they fit my ankle, as Janet mentioned http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....oties-came

I have a pretty small foot, a chunky ankle, and bleah, shapeless calves. It is very hard to find a bootie that hits at the right height to make a shape out of my leg. Boots are much easier because the leather itself creates a shape. I figured it out with alot of trying, taking photos and looking them over for different heights. THe tip is the find a way to not let the end of the boot be at the widest or widening part of the leg, but right below or right at the thinnest. I am No help really,

Exactly what MO said. The gap between the bootie and the leg is a problem. I've seen lace up booties that work well for legs of all widths and avoid this problem.

I wear them and my legs are as far from skinny as you can get. If booties are fitted at the ankle or end below the ankle they usually work well with skirts of different lengths especially with low contrast hose or tights. However wider on top booties can work too if the hem is a bit above the knee. I did not have any gaping on top ankle boots but I wore my mid-calf slouchy boots like this with shorter dresses and they looked good - even with my chunky legs. They are also hard to pull with skirts but higher hemline does the trick!

Yes, Janet has a good point about fitting at the ankle. I had a try with booties for a dress that made me look like I was standing in flower pots because they were too wide at my ankle. I would have loved to have a bigger leg to fill them out, because I loved the shoes. They went back So I think too thin of a leg can be an issue, too.

I have seen it work nicely on women with a wide variety of leg shapes/sizes. I think finding a flattering hemline and bootie shape (for example, I like them fitted at the ankle to show how slim my ankles are), and even the color of the bootie and hosiery can do a lot to make or break the look.

Hi folks, I love the look of booties with skirts or dresses but afraid that it only works with girls with skinny legs. Does anyone have tips or thoughts on this? I have not tried yet. The second challenge is cold legs but maybe it is time to try the fleece stockings Angie has mentioned in the past.
