ST, I hear you about wide openings in booties — I imagine it’s to compensate for heavier/stiffer leather to prevent rubbing on calves, but I really don’t love the way those catch on my cropped or rolled pant legs or long skirts. Or the look of them with long skirts — the fitted ankles of sock-style and narrower shaft boots make such a nice flattering line. But I’m finding many of them aren’t right for one reason or another. Some of the fabrications look weirdly wrinkly or kind of cheap in action.

The Aqualalias look great- and yay to dark brown boots for you!

Sock booties are so much easier to wear than stiff leather. Why are the ankles of nonstretch booties so big?? I just got these L'Artiste ones, and Love them, but am concerned about the ankles rubbing.

A little update. I tried a few other brown boots with fitted or sock-style shafts, including a size up in the higher-heeled Aquatalias. None of them were there for me, comfort-wise…but I found a darker brown version of the Everly boots that notsaf posted upthread. They are very comfortable straight out of the box! Not quite as much of a statement as a chunkier platform style or a higher heel, but still quite attractive. I brought them home to try around the house.

Aquatalias are simply gorgeous and I'm totally lusting after them . Did a massive closet clean out this week and am now feeling a bit refreshed on what I need and I'm thinking those may fit the bill, they look lovely on you.

oh, those Aquatalia are divine! Also, very wise to a non slip sole ! The navy version is very tempting!

I was keen on pair of navy boots but unfortunately they were above my budget, so I added a different pair for casualwear. Now I have 3 pair of boots: a black pair for evenings and work, dark beige for smart casual and taupe for casual. Hope it will be OK!

I went to wear the Aquatalias yesterday and discovered a bit of a flaw — the heel right at the back edge is a bit slippery. I noticed it a few times on our tile floor. So I’m going to have a non-slip pad added to the heel at my cobbler’s. A small extra cost but will help peace of mind. I broke a wrist 25 years ago due to a pair of shoes with slippery soles so I take no chances with that.

I’d snap up those Aquatalia’s if they had them in my size. I last year replaced exactly a beloved black Aquatalia Chelsea boot that I’d worn to the ground. Basic, classic and timeless and like these both purchased on an excellent sale. Last year I also found and duped in black and wine that reads cognac more Chelsea boots but pointier toe and higher shaft and shinier (but not too shiny!) than the Aquatslia’s that are dressier. It’s funny how the smallest details change look from casual to “up my game” dressy!

Thanks, all!

I spent a little time in the EF booties today, just around the house, and I think the heel height is just not what I want for a casual boot anymore. The balls of my feet were feeling it. It’s a shame because I love how they look.

I think I’ll keep an eye out for an alternative darker brown bootie, something again with that fitted ankle and more walking comfort. But it’s not a pressing need at all. If I see one, great; if not, I still have plenty to wear!

Late to the party but just want to add that Aquatalias seem to last forever and still look great. I also think they get comfier over time. At least that has been my experience. So I vote you get them in the black and the brown. That also gives you two heel heights and you will be all set!

Watch the too high heels, Janet! They can start off feeling fab, but become less comfy after an hour - maybe less. It's one of the reasons you aren't wearing some of your beloved boots now ;)

Booties have been hard to find, especially navy. I brought home some navy snowboots but don't know yet if they are keepers. They have a couple shades of navy. The trim shade will work but most of the boot is too light. This time most shoes in my usual size were too big or too small. This was frustrating. Another thing I need to try on. Remember that you will reach for boots or booties when it is slick out. Heel may not feel stable enough on slick pavement. I love my black Aquatalias. They are comfortable enough to wear all day walking.

I like both the Aquatalias and the EF booties on you and find both very comfortable. You can't go wrong.

I would keep the Aquatalias as they look great and given the lower heel and comfort, they would be workhorses. I LOVE the colour of #8 as a higher and more dressy option.

These are the boots that I have worn most of winter. All with low heels and extremely comfortable.

I got a chance to try on each of these with proper hosiery (which I didn’t have on in store when I first tried them on quickly). The least comfy were the Pliners, so I’m going to return them.

The EF and Aquatalias are both quite comfortable and walkable. The Aquatalias (pics 1-4) are especially so — they’re very simple in style but the comfort is outstanding and I like the suede texture combined with the weatherproof nature of them.

I decided to try ordering the EF boots (pics 5-7) in the brown color. I’m also considering the Aquatalia boots in pic 8 — I love that particular rich brown. The heel might be high, but their comfort is typically so good on me that it may be fine.

Great feedback, all!

Suz, those are great options. I’m digging those silver Madewells for you!

Cat2, bummer but also good to know about your experience with the Pliners — I had good experience with them in the past, but it’s been quite a few years.

One thing I could do…order the EF stretch booties in brown to scratch that brown itch, and keep the black Aquatalias. But I want to try them all on with skirts first, and also test out comfort more thoroughly.

Janet, I SO GET YOUR NEED FOR CHANGE. Brown boots it is, as well as the simple black pair :)

I echo what Tanya said. Simple black classic Aquatalias are a no-brainer that fill the current wardrobe hole.

I DO think you should indulge your craving for brown boots. Great with all the blues you wear. The high heel on the EF's give me pause too, although I love the way they look! I vote try some others to compare.

I like all the booties you have shown. The Seychelles would be mine, except I was waylaid by these Revitalign Kelso boots in tan suede. They are a more utility vibe, but good with a longer skirt, which I am determined to try this winter. Replaced the insoles with less arch and more cushion, as have low volume flat feet.
Also brown suede are these LLBean slipper moccasins. They go with an equally LLBean ivory plush robe.
I am putting some effort into buying quality pieces I will wear every day in season, for years.

I purchased these recently and they are excellent. Amazingly comfortable for my high-arch feet for both walking and standing and they tick all the boxes for modern style: high shaft, minimal design, squarish toe. Not waterproof but I did treat with with spray. These are shoes I look forward to wearing.
