Thanks Anna! I am actually not opposed to spending that much for the right booties, if they were truly as comfortable as the ones I'm retiring, as the cost per wear would be nothing. I would just prefer leather not suede, as suede (even if waterproofed) isn't going to last long in our climate.

I will definitely try the rockports again, thanks. When my mom's arches fell, same age as I am now, it was rockports and new balance from then on out and to this day... her feet are narrower than mine though. New balance in general has never worked for me (we used to live near an outlet). But It's worth a try, who knows.

Not sure of your budget, and yeah these are expensive, but I find LD Tuttle uses soft leather. I also have wide-ish high volume feet.

So sorry I haven't re-visited this thread -- but I have been on the boot hunt this week.

Also apologies as I realize the favorite black booties about to bite the dust are Eric Michael, not Munro.

Chris, I do have Superfeet insoles I use in my running sneakers. I'll try to swap them out and see if they work, though I have tried this in the past with lots of other shoes and they never work, except in sneakers. I have tried numerous insoles over the years and none work-- I guess because my feet are high volume? Yet only sort of wide here and there.

I also think my feet are just SUPER fussy lately because of the previous B12 issue. Now that that's resolved, my feet suddenly have nerve endings reminding me they exist, when I apparently didn't feel anything for years and walked blissfully, unknowingly, around in ill-fitting shoes.

I second Chris's idea about insoles - I have some from Ortho-Heel that I wear with my Blairs. They're not cheap, but you can move them from shoe to shoe.

Try the Blairs in a size big enough for the insert you need to get the right support. I too am very short (5'1") and don't like booties that are stiff at the front of the ankle but I just wore my Blairs around the house yesterday for the first time and within 15 minutes forgot I had them on. No stiffness at the front of the ankle AT ALL. I was wearing them with thin nylon knee-highs.

I wear Superfeet insoles in my running shoes, they are fairly stiff and fabulous, well worth the price, perhaps they would work for you. I don't need them for the Blairs myself but would gladly put them into other shoes as needed.

No solutions yet, just empathy! lot of booties are really big at the ankle unfortunately. Even sock booties can be loose! And ive been noticing a lot of very stiff leather this year too compared to last year.

Finding ankle boots that don't hit right at the flex-point of my ankle and that have a sleek enough fit not to gape is a real trick. I'm not sure I have any good suggestions. I mostly opt for chelsea boots (elastic panels give a cleaner fit) or lace-up styles so I can get the snugness just right.

Maybe searching for "shooties" would help turn up some options with lower shafts?

I’m sorry you’re having trouble finding something suitable. The most supportive booties I have ever found are Teva, specifically the Delavina style, but I suspect they’re too heavy looking. (I’m on my phone so they’re hard to get to in my Finds.) They aren’t tight on the ankle though, in fact rather the opposite. I think I get a little of the flower pot effect. So I throw that out there, though I’m not sure it’s your solution.

the shaft on these munro's are listed as about an inch higher than the naturalizer blairs but might be worth a try as they apprear to have something that makes the ankle more fitted, and they are water resistant to boot

I've never figured out finds, but will list some tomorrow when I have a chance. Let's just say for now that the Natualizer Blair's are the perfect height; I just wish they were a tad more supportive (cushioning is great but I need a hard insole I guess? Not sure. I just know the Blondo's I tried on today were perfect in every way except the shaft height) My trustworthy Munros are just a bit higher, but have the stretch elastic. They are not as high as the booties you've shared, Suz.

For taller booties I have IMPO stretch booties, which are like the popular sock booties right now, but those are many years old too. I've got a wedge bootie that has a much higher shaft that I got last year and I am forgetting the brand but the leather is super supple so it works.

I guess I could experiment with wider width shoes that can accommodate an insole. My feet are wider side of normal, and high volume, which makes insoles tricky. I think my arches are falling, same as my mom's did at this age. My feet have been super cranky lately.

Jennifer, do you have Finds for the ones you've been looking at?

I don't know if these would work for you but I got them and love them. The toe is more pointed than it appears in the stock photo but the last is a lovely slope for me. They are loose (ish) at the ankle but on my foot at least, the loose part is in the front and this avoids the flower pot effect. I wear them with no show socks but I am sure they'd work with a shortie sock too. (I had never found no-shows that worked for me, either, but the Smartwool ones do work.)

I have a pair of black leather Munro booties that are about to bite the dust. I have taken them to the cobblers multiple times over the last 4 or 5 years, they look okay on the outside, but on the inside are losing their sh*t and aren't as supportive anymore, and no, there's no room for an insole (I've tried). I am looking for a replacement -- have been looking for one for a few years-- and it's seemingly impossible.

I come close, oh so close, but often the booties hit too high on front of the ankle and are too stiff and I feel the shoe hitting my ankle with every step and it's super annoying. The Munro's I have had elastic and soft supple leather and weren't too high. I did not have any break-in time with them at all; they fit good right in the store before I bought them, and that's what I keep looking for.

I like them just high enough they don't show short socks. (I've never met a no-show sock that works for me so don't even bother suggesting).

Or the bootie is just too wide at the ankle and I get that flower pot thing going on and they look sloppy with my inevitably too long pants as I'm short. Heck they look sloppy with ankle pants hemmed just right.

Petty booties are just slightly off for me all around, ankle height, ankle circumference, size etc. Also they feel heavier to me compared to the Munro's. I also don't want a heavy bootie that feels like I'm walking in cement blocks.

I did go on a white bootie hunt and finally settled on the Naturalizer Blair's. These are close to my ideal, I kept them and will wear them, considered duplicating in black. But not as supportive as the Munro's used to be, or Blondo's. The Blondo's are my ideal support wise, I put those on in the store and my feet went ahhhhhh... but the ones I've tried on have that annoying too high/too stiff in the ankle thing going on. Do they make ones with shorter shafts?

Remember I'm just 5'0. Maybe if I was 2-4 inches taller the Blondo's I tried on today, and others, would be perfect.
