These are too big. I think many of us like the thought of liking something so big it makes us look bigger (because our default is the opposite—trying to lol smaller)

Angie, YESSSSS!!!! I do have bottom problems!!!! Once I find a bit of time I will gather all my bottoms, try them on, and post the photos here. I am having a hard time with many of my old faves in terms of fit, length, and shoes to match.

Daisy Avalin, yes, I have the same--a few pairs of pants that have the scruffy-draggy-damaged back-of-the-hem thing. That was a common sight in the early 2000s everywhere, at least the people around me wore their pants that way. Now it does make me feel unkempt but being only a little over 5'2" sometimes that's the only way I can wear pants with flats without the hem looking too short.

RobinF, glad you understand this is not my only pair of too-big-pants that feel lovely when I need some breathing room...

Angie, yes... and looking at the pics, indeed, they are big all over. Unfortunately that's also the case with a couple of other beloved pants--and some (not these) I even had tailored to fit tighter, and they still are too big. I didn't lose weight, I think maybe the pants were a wee big from the start and then stretched with time and wear? This pair in question is an oldie from Old Navy from a couple of years ago. It was also the smallest size then... though now they make many things in Petites. (But then sometimes the Petite range is too short.)

Sweet, K.M., these pants are at least a size too big. I vote pass on. Sorry to burst the happy bubble

I think it's a cute outfit! I agree that the pants look a little big but I am guilty of wearing too big pants for comfort also so totally get why you love them.

As I'm only 5', all my bootcuts/anything-other-than-skinny-trousers that I wear drag on the floor in flats! For this reason, I tend to have a couple of pairs that are thus 'scruffier' pairs for wearing with flats, and as much as possible I wear heels!!

rachylou, I absolutely love being thought of as insouciant!

Runcarla, yes, they are a bit big--and I must confess that's one reason I love them so much, because they are all the more comfy and breezy for being big. Also they kind of stretch with use, then I wash and they get a bit smaller, and the cycle repeats... Although I suppose they never quite go back to what they were when I first bought them. But you are right, that might be why I'm having trouble with them.

k.m. - the pants look too big - not just long! You need to size down. They are a nice looking trouser, though, so I understand why you like them.

advice: I’m a hipster and think floods are PPL... but this looks good to me. It has insouciance

Not sure if this qualifies as a bootcut (maybe too wide at the top for it)? It's one of my favorite trousers because it is so soft and lightweight (it's a cotton/linen/stretch blend).

I wanted to wear it with the very flat flats in the first three pictures (D'orsay sandals). But then the pants were dragging behind me.

So I put them on with my ultra-comfy Skechers sneakers, because my bunion was achy all night and I thought this morning my feet deserved some comfort. I wore it this way but not sure if I achieved PPL. Is it a tad long?

PS. This is was a "casual day" outfit. More about comfort on a really hot day with lots of walking involved. I don't necessarily feel super put together in it, but feel breezy
