Thanks Ruth! I'll look for a pair.

Thanks Suz! I don't think they can be altered easily, or if you do you would loose the waterproofness. But I think that they will work with the legwarmers, at least until a new pair comes along and I'm only buying new boots if I find the perfect pair.

Thanks Ingunn! I agree, they have a great selection, I really love that they offer so many colors. And it's truly wool, which you can't find all that often in the regular stores.

Beautiful sweater, Astrid. The fit is fab, I think. I think Woolovers offer a great selection an good quality. The boots issue can fortunately be mended, as so many already suggested.

Sweater is great on you, Astrid!

And yes to the legwarmers/ socks with boots. If they are relatively new, you might also look into getting them altered. If boots can be made bigger, maybe they can be made smaller, too?

Thanks Unfrumped! I don't really need boots to wear with bootcuts since fall/winter weather is often wet around here and not good for bootcuts anyway. So generally I think getting some jeans/pants I can tuck would be a good idea.

That sweater is a keeper!

I agree that you might think about what silhouettes you like best and focus in those to match up boots for tights and under bootcuts vs boots for tucking in skinnies. Sometimes one boot will do it all, or not.

Thanks Eva! I think you could totally wear one of these in a size XS. This is a size S and the XS was definitely smaller and also shrunk a bit in the wash. Waterproof booties are probably not a bad idea to start with. Or sturdy shoes (speak Oxfords just wet weather appropriate) and waterproof boots. Knee high boots are definitely better when it's really cold. I don't think I have ever bought clothes at Ebay before, besides bras that is. But then I know the model and size I need. I would be scared to have fit issues and problematic returns I think.

Thanks Alasse! Yes, you do get used to right fit... I can do both new boots and a new coat, but depending on price I'd want to space the expenses on different months. That said, I do get Christmas money from work at the end of November, which is almost a months salary. So I could splurge in November if I pay with credit card, then I would have only a few days of bad balance.

First off, the colour is lovely on you. Second, I commiserate about fit issues - once you have properly fitting items, it's really annoying to settle for sloppy.

The boots look fine with your jeans, but it sounds like you need a pair of skirt boots (or adjustable ones with laces?). Or you could try the legwarmer idea. Your budget probably doesn't like that idea, I'm guessing?

Love that jumper! I want one, but I suspect I'm sized out.

What a frustrating footwear situation. I'm sorry. As someone who was recently on a massive boot hunt, it's such a pain. Perhaps you can start with some waterproof booties that fit under your trousers & look good with skirts too? Of course, depending on how warm/cold you run, that might rule skirts out in the winter. I like Jenny's legwarmer suggestion too!

The wool coat issue is definitely worse; you didn't have any luck looking at vintage ones on ebay? I've found a lot of times I fit better in vintage clothes than modern ones & if you get one w a full skirt you won't have any hip issues.

Thanks Fern! Those oxfords sadly are no more... I do have black oxfords I bought as a replacement, but they are rather dainty and I wear them mostly with hose and skirts. You can't wear warm socks in them and they are not the right shoe for cold or wet weather. The only shoes I have that work with the straight legs / bootcuts are my sneakers. But I'm not a big fan of the combination. The bootcuts are alright with the sneakers, but the straight legs feel very frumpy paired with them. At least to me. And the bootcuts are a bad idea when it's raining anyway.

ETA

Added a pic of the sneakers.

You had caramel colored oxfords in the past, if I remember correctly? I think you might need better fitting boots, but do you have shoes that you can wear with the straight legs / bootcuts?
The pullover is gorgeous on you - looks really comfy oversized.

Thanks Jenny. The legwarmers are a great idea, I think I still have a pair somewhere that I never used because they weren't my style. But they might help a bit when I wear tights with the boots. I'm definitely trying that. And yes, you have to get dressed somehow, right? I guess I won't freeze, but I've gotten used to wear nice well fitting things here on YLF and having to wear things that are off makes me kind of crazy now.

I love the pullover! I like the looseness of it too.

For your boot issue, you may want to try wearing legwarmers to bulk up your legs under your boots, especially when you are wearing skirts/tights. You can either keep them completely hidden inside the boots, or you can have them stick out a few inches. I have narrow calves and sometimes need to do this for normal calf diameter boots to fit me.

It also sounds like you may need to keep on shopping for a coat and boots. I'm all about making do if possible, but you need both a coat and boots for true winter weather.

The Woolovers pullover came and the color is just as I thought, absolutely lovely. It's relatively big on me compared to my old one and looks maybe too big right now, but I'm keeping it. My old one shrunk quite a bit in the wash and I think this one will too. Do you like it?

When I took the pictures I wanted to create an example outfit of how I planned to wear the pullover, so I took my winter boots out of storage. And promptly noticed a huge problem. I'm swimming in my boots. They feel halfway acceptable when I shoved my BFs into them, but they feel much too big when I only wear tights. These are my only fancy winter shoes right now (I'm not counting the trekking shoes I bought for Scotland). And my black booties aren't really waterproof and are wearing thin besides.

Now the problem is as follows, I right now have:

-fitting skirts but no wool coat or waterproof boots to wear them with
-waterproof boots that only work with my BFs (which are getting too baggy for my taste) and red slouchy skinnies (that I don't like to wear full stop)
- Three pairs of more or less fitting pants which I all can't tuck into the boots (1xbootcuts and x2 straight legs)

HELP! Any ideas what do to about this?
