IMHO I think they are too wide. And any discomfort you are feeling now, well, I have learned the hard way it only gets worse with time. Anything you have to put up with now will be a reason to purge later.

Thanks, shiny. Even though we live in the South, not everyone wears cowboy boots, and my DD certainly doesn't. She wears the same shoe size as you do, which is why I'm following this thread very closely.

Krishni, those are cute, though a little more casual than what I have my heart set on, and also I really want cognac not brown (I already have brown & wine boots - years and years old but still in good shape & classic).

Betty, it may not be a factor of overall height. It may be that my lower leg is proportionately short. I dunno. But also my calf is narrow - 13 inches. Proportionate to my height it's not narrow, it's rather average. However this ups the challenge since narrow calf boots are rare these days too. I am sure it's even worse for someone who's long legged AND narrow calved.

I think Frye's got the right idea in that it seems that the shaft height & circumference is adjusted proportionately to the shoe size, so the size 6 shaft fits me perfectly whereas the 6.5 is about... 1/4-1/2 inch too tall and too wide. If only my foot was narrow and not so full. It's strange because I rarely, if ever, need to go up to a 6.5. Just this brand. It feels more like a 5.5 on my foot.

If you go into Zappos and do a search on 13 x 13 boots, you wind up with only cowboy boots. I guess I need to move to the South!

In the past I had way better luck. I do own tall boots, but none that are newer than 6 or 7 years old (not counting cowboy boots). Something shifted. We saw the emergence of "extended calves" and that's when I stopped having luck, despite searching every year. I think manufacturers wised up that people are getting taller.

Have you tried the Keen Baby Bern? I am also petite with short legs and these fit me perfectly. You can adjust calf fit which is a good feature, because it allows me to wear them with skinnies and with skirt, adjusting in consequence.

I tried on the SW Stepup (I think?) last year at NAS and it was laughably tall. But even the Blondo boot that was labeled as 14" tall was too tall for me. It fit Shannon, who is 3 inches shorter, so either her legs are longer proportionately, or her calves take up some of the slack.

I would still try some La Canadiennes -- some of them are taller and some shorter. The problem is you don't necessarily have access to all styles. Nordies does not get them all. The only time I've seen a lot at once was at the flagship store in Montreal.

Those don't look too tall to me, and they look really nice on you! I think I've seen that style in person, and they're really gorgeous. But, if they feel like they're rubbing, that's probably no good.

I also have trouble finding boots that are short enough, although I can sometimes wear shafts up to 15 or 15.5. Not sure if it's because my legs are longer in proportion to my height, or if it's just that my wider calves eat up a little more height. And I always end up with ankle slouch, so that probably makes boots come up a little lower on me too.

La Canadienne are too tall for me. They are oh-so-close. But too tall.

I think you should try out these Stuart Weitzman's. Lisap, not sure they are the 5050's.. or rather, if you look at the web site, there are several versions and it's unclear which I tried on, since the site doesn't list specifications.

Yeah ---- the height -- but then it will be that wide, too -- and that is too wide for me. Actually most of the tall boots the last few years have been 16 to 18 inches tall in the shaft - - WAY too tall for short legged me. :(

And, to be honest, even some 14 inch shafts are too tall. If they are also too wide, because my calf won't "take up" the material, they seem even taller. That is probably another issue affecting your own search. ARGH!!

I did find boots from La Canadienne that worked. Not all their styles will, but several were superb and would probably work on you, too. I got Mazy (which is a dressier heeled boot) and another one whose name I can't remember (more of a riding boot -- but black). My "Mazy" boot is a lovely grey.

If they rub when you sit then they are definitely too tall. They look fine but in this case how they feel is the most important.
They maybe a bit too wide too but it is hard to see in the pictures.
Tall boots are so hard to fit, it is amazing we an find any at all!

I'm 5' as well and have the same trouble with boots. It's darn near impossible to find anything that isn't too tall. I tried the Frye Melissa in black recently and like you I just wasn't sure. I found a black dress boot with a 12" shaft a few years ago that works well with skirts/dresses but I'm not having luck with boots to tuck jeans in to. I'm always people watching when I'm out and about and I see many small women with boots that seem to overwhelm their bodies.

They don't look too tall and they are very attractive boots. If they aren't comfortable though, I would keep looking. They need to feel good or you won't wear them regardless of how great they look.

It's been years since I bought new tall boots, because I'm so short at 5'0, it is a struggle. Ideally I need 13 inch x 13 inch dimensions.

What do you think of these Frye's?

These are the 6.5. Fit my feet quite well (enough room I can wear thick socks). But they felt a little too tall (rubbing funny when I sit down) and ... well you tell me... too gapey and loose? Or just right?

To my eye, the size 6 fit better -- they were slightly shorter and also more narrow. Did not take pictures because unfortunately, they felt too small in the foot. Not sure how much they stretch but at this price I don't want to take chances, and I fear it's actually the length that's off, not just the width.

I also tried on a pair of gorgeous Stuart Weitzman boots that fit like a dream (because they were shorter in the back than front, and had elastic)... but were black, and I already have black boots. Still I wish I'd taken note of the style number/name, as I am now wondering if I should invest & upgrade while I have the opportunity.
