I have basic gear like Sorels and they're rated to -20 or -40 or something crazy, so I can't imagine choosing Sorels that give you cold toes! I know mine aren't exactly fashionable, except that half of the Tahoe population wears them, so maybe it's a niche fashion thing . . . For that amount of money I would be sure my whole foot is warm - period.

Thanks, Jenava and Mochi! Good to know these boots are getting good reviews!

Now that I have thought about it some more, my main issue will be whether these boots will look and feel OK if worn to work (on casual dressing days) or if they are too casual.

I'll have to think about it some more.

Does it help if the price is slightly lower?

I've seen these on a couple of bloggers. Sea of Shoes has them in the beige color:

http://seaofshoes.typepad.com/.....boots.html

I like them and they mostly got good reviews on the Sorel site. I can't say if you should get them or not...but winter is your dominate season and these could also be worn in the spring when it's slushy (I went to school in southern VT, so I kind of know where you're coming from).

I have a sudden boot lust after seeing these Sorel boots http://www.alreadypretty.com/w.....etails.jpg on Already Pretty blog. These are probably the best looking snow boots I have seen. Trying to decide whether I should give in and order them to try on or keep resisting.

They are expensive (about $200). But I live in Upstate New York so could wear them a lot... But I will be teaching 3 days a week so can only wear skinny jeans with boots 2 times a week + weekends. But they are waterproof... But the reviews say the toes are not very well insulated so the shaft is warmer than the toes - may not be great for our weather.... Of course, I might just try them on and decide I hate them (which will solve the problem)....

My current boot collection for the winter consists of midcalf black Dolce Vita Storm boots (sort of biker-style, uninsulated, good for tucking), tall brown Timberlands (can be worn with skirts mostly), Ugg-style shearling boots from LandsEnd (these I only wear to get to work, then change), LLBean low snowboots that I use for before/after skiing, and black Merrell Booties for wearing under bootcut pants. Total cost - $350 over the last 5 years (I got all of these on really good sales).

I also have a couple of pairs of tall boots (one grey, one black, total cost $200, both bought in the last year) that are not very winter-appropriate (slippery soles) but can we worn to work. Unlike some of our forumites who live in the cold climate, most days I don't have to walk any further than from the parking garage to the building (covered walkway, although temperatures can easily be around 20F or lower) or from my car to a nearest store. I guess one practical consideration is that these would make it easier to fill our backyard bird feeders - we can get a couple of feet of snow in the yard easily. :)

Trying to decide whether getting another pair of boots this year will be too much of an indulgence or if this makes some sense. Any opinions or experience with Sorel?
