His concert band was fantastic and so generous to spend their Sunday with us, and the speakers had such great things to share with the 130 family, friend, and band member attendees (!)  Both of my boys spoke - that really brought me to my knees. I managed through my eulogy largely because I accidentally wore readers instead of my blended lenses, so when I looked out over the room everything was blurry. I was so distracted. I think that was Dad giving me a hand so I didn't sob.</p> <p>Anyway, point of this entry is the books - I mentioned several weeks ago that I had the idea to put Dad's dozens of books on tables for people to take as mementos. I honestly wasn't sure they'd go. People loved it! When I saw so many people milling around the tables, and leaving with more than one book in their arms,  it filled me with such massive joy and gratitude.</p> <p>I told my boys that this was exactly what they should do when my time comes. Now I need to spend the rest of my days taking classes, playing or singing in an ensemble, reading every single thing I can get my hands on, riding my bike, walking, and continuing to stay fit, and powering through all illnesses that come my way. Mainly, I want to remember to be more thoughtful, more tuned in with people on an individual basis, and more tolerant. And that is how I will honor my father.
