The only black riding boot I have has dark brown 'cuff' on top, but other than, I have a pair in burgundy, rich cognac and a new light brown pair. Any of the darker colours will have a similar book ending effect, and if you like light coloured footwear, then you could repeat the lighter colour elsewhere in your outfit, maybe in a scarf. I think it's about creating balance in a look. But I also like a pair of brightly coloured shoes for an accent to an otherwise neutral outfit. Sometimes the unexpected works better than you might think.
