Thanks for helping me think through styling this skirt!

Zap: You're right about the length. I think I can wear a "long midi" well, but this is longer than that. Unforturnately, the waist is a little big. In the last year I've been really good about not buying the smallest size I can fit into to, but I think I should have sized down in this, perhaps. I could think about adding a wide elastic band inside the waist. I'l give that some thought.

Oh, and no, I can't wear the jacket in anything above 65 degrees, which is why I've not been wearing the skirt much!

I would actually hike the skirt up. I think the length is a little in between. Not long enough to be maxi yet not short enough for either midi or tea length. It is a knit, you could just wear it higher on your waist. i like #1 but can you wear it in this heat? I would just style higher on your waist with the top untucked.

Thanks for the feedback! I don't like to give up when the outfit doesn't just "fall into place." I'm wondering about a simple sleeveless, but woven top, perhaps?
Of course, all of mine are patterned, for wearing under jackets!

Angie: Thanks for the thumbs up on the long midi. I think I might like to try another -- a little shorter than this -- for Autumn. My sewing machine will be put into use for making bedskirts and, well, Bethskirts, after I survive Vacation Bible School next week. I'm the preschool Bible teacher. Diva + 40 preschools could be a pretty dynamic mix!

And you may quote me anytime!

Nice skirt! I tried on a maxi dress yesterday and felt like I was wearing a wizard robe. I like how you have styled it here. I agree with Angie, make the high-low more exaggerated. I am keeping my eye out for a high-low skirt or dress.

I too like #1 best, but especially since denim jacket is one of my favorite articles of clothing. I love the striped maxi.

I agree that #1 is the best, #3 looks okay, and #2 isn't flattering with the horizontally striped waistband. Maybe you could try an open button-front shirt when it's too warm for the jean jacket?

That's a LONG midi and I like it! I would love to see the high-low hemline exaggerated. Feel like pulling out your sewing machine? Then you can wear it in warmer temperatures :)

Also Beth Ann, I loved your "Form with Flow" description this morning. May I quote you in a blog post?

I agree with your estimation. I like #1 the best, and next best is #3. I wonder if there is a top style that would allow you to wear it as #3 yet feel you were getting that added structure? Hmmmm. I am not entirely sure what it might be, but might be worth combing Pinterest for inspiration.

I've passed on the maxi trend. I love the dresses themselves, but cannot help but feel I'm walking about in a very pretty nightie. I have tried hi/low hems, and I purchased this skirt -- which is actually also wearable (If I were18) as strapless dress.

1. The first look is the best I think. The jacket adds the "structured" element that I think is essential to flattery for me. I like it like this. I see this as a "Farmer's Market/Art Fair ensemble. Of course, I run warm, so I wouldn't dress like this past the low 60's.
2. Um. Do I look like I'm getting ready to bellydance? I actually think the striped band would look better if I was facing the camera directly, but it still seems a little costumey without the jacket. And I feel like I look a little "blobby."
3. Is this better, with the untucked bottom.

I do think there's a bit of a retro look in this skirt, particularly with the flat sandals, but I'm not sure I'm pulling this off well. Should I demote it to loungewear?
