Oh thank you all for the input! I went to Ross after work today and was tempted to buy a dress and shirt, but then I decided not to until I had my camera available to send you guys pictures for input! I'm excited to go shopping now because I know I can come here for good advice... the hubby just basically pleads the fifth on anything I ask him, so I'm never sure if it really looks okay or if he's just afraid I'm going to cry when he says it doesn't!

Minerva, I have a horrible time finding jeans! And it's definitely because of the pokey out bottom that you are talking about Steph! I never have more than one pair that really fits at a time it seems... it's another case where I've been wondering if I should just buy a larger size and have the waist and length fixed by a tailor... except that seems like a lot of work for a pair of jeans. I saw a pair of the new Levis curvy jeans in Ross today, but it wasn't my size... I plan on going back to look for more this weekend.

Thank you all for your input! I'm so happy I found YLF!!! :)

ETA: Angie, I have that post bookmarked so I can refer to it quickly when I'm virtual shopping!

Shauntelle, I agree with the other ladies about the pear shape. My backside is similar to yours (although I am also busty, so I'm an hourglass), so I wanted to comment. After years of me living with my butt, I have come to realize a couple of things. Those who are endowed in the backside seem to have one of two things going on--some women have butts that are wide across, but not necessarily full, while other women have butts that aren't really wide but stick out in the back (if that makes sense). I have the latter, and it seems you do as well. I think that a lot of the guidelines for pears and hourglasses don't really take this difference in account, and they really should. Something that flatters someone with a wider butt isn't necessarily going to help someone with a fuller butt, and vice versa.

Anyway, that's just my rumination, and might not really be relevant to you at all! I can make a concrete suggestion, though. I saw on the jeans thread you said you have trouble finding jeans. I would suggest checking out Joe's Jeans in the Honey style. It is specifically designed for women with fuller butts, and they are absolutely my go-to brand for jeans. I also recently purchased a pair of jeans by Hudson and I thought those worked well for my butt as well.

I have to imagine that you will totally rock pencil skirts.

A very goodlooking pear! I was wondering if you often wear jeans and if you easily find a pair that fits... and if you do, where do you buy them? I've got quite a sticking out bottom too and finding jeans is hell for me!
And I think that pencil skirts can look good on a pear if you choose the right ones and combine them well. Curvy hips are actually pretty sexy so I guess you just have to show them off the right way :)
Nicole, you are looking amazing in those outfits!

Despite being a pretty pear you have a really good set of shoulders to help balance out the bottom. I envy women with good shoulders, although I know some posters don't like their own.

I'm looking forward to seeing some of your outfits. It's so enjoyable to watch a new YLF member learn what she is capable of wearing.

Thanks Shauntelle! I'm glad that helped! It's pretty rare i can find a pencil skirt off the rack that fits me perfect so yes most times I'll buy one that fits through my hips and then get the waist taken in. Or...if i'm feeling lazy I don't get the waist taken in and tuck a shirt and cami into there instead... >.>

Can't wait to see your WIW looks!

No way, if I've learned nothing on YLF, it's that there is a pencil skirt for every body type! Pears are no exception...but in your case, keep an eye out for skirts with the right details. Skirts that taper dramatically may not be the best option. Look instead for skirts that fall straight from the hip or that only taper slightly. Wear your pencil skirts with pride, Shauntelle!!

^^ Nicole's right on the money! Put the lighter/brighter colors and fun details on top - ruffles, embellished collars, prints are all helpful. You can definitely make those pencil skirts work for you!

OMG! You are so completely adorable Nicole and I love those outfits! You also share my middle name! Thank you for sharing those with me, I really love pencil skirts because they look so lady-like and sophisticated. Do you size up when you buy them and have the waist tailored? I'm always wondering if that's what I should do...

Maybe I'll have to do a different post asking for tips on wearing a pencil skirt as a pretty pear!

Nooooo! I love pencil skirts, I think you just have to pair the right tops with them. Look for details that help balance your top and bottom and/or focus on drawing the eye up.

I don't think being a pear should stop us from wearing things we enjoy, we just have to find ways and details that help making it flattering.

I posted a couple of pics as examples of how i do it. HTHs!

I would agree that you are a pretty pear. Other women on this site are much more experienced with this kind of diagnostic assessment and will be able to give you more nuanced feedback. But I think you have done a super job already, by figuring out your shape and posting photos.

Well, I'm going to bravely post these photos even though they are not the best pictures of me ever... Forgive the messy hair and what-not, this was end of the day, dying from allergies style... eh, who am I kidding, end of the day is almost always like this, even without the headache!

Right now my measurements are:

32 - bust
28 - waist
37 - hips

Realistically, once I start running again this week, I'm probably looking at losing an inch on my waist and 1-2 inches on the hips. That's my normal, not starving myself, pretty much size 4 standard.

https://picasaweb.google.com/S.....directlink

Pretty sure I'm a pear but this will also let you see the backside concerns I mention... it's been 37 years, I'm pretty sure it's not going anywhere or getting any smaller, so I have to account for it when I shop! lol
