I can't find quite the quote I was thinking of, but this is close. http://www.usmagazine.com/cele.....r-20132210
I didn't download the entire Cosmo Latina issue. Maybe it's in there.

Those guidelines are designed to "bend" (not literally, of course!) all body types towards just one shape. Besides specificities of your own body that would require mixing different body type guidelines, there is also the question of if that ideal is how you want to look.

A famous example is Jennifer Lopez. She grew up in communities that saw voluptuous bodies and big rear ends as ideal for women. She says that in her early filming experiences, mainstream approaches that preach small behinds for women were confusing. People kept trying to find ways to hide or camoflouge the feature that she considered to be her best asset!

If you think your own legs are thin and gangly or short and stubby, then it doesn't matter what the "rules" say about whether you should make them look fuller or elongate them.

There are many ways to trick the eye described on this website and elsewhere. Start with the ones that are prescribed for the type that is closest to your own, but the goal is to bring out your uniqueness, in ways that please you. If following the "recipe" for your main type gives you a strange taste, then by all means take a glance at the other mixes and try a few of their ingredients to see if that works better for you.

I think you might want to think about yourself as having a combined body type. I am very busty with a defined waist and hips about the same size as my bust -- hourglass, easy, right?

Nope! The width of my shoulders means that often, I look more in proportion if I ignore "rules" about dressing an hourglass and instead follow ones for dressing a pear-shape. You'd think the pear rules would, in turn, make me look bustier -- but they are often designed to make the *shoulderline* appear broader, which has the effect of minimizing the bust.

I think you just have to figure out what combo of "rules" for your body type gives you the just-flattering-enough that you want, and not worry about whether or not that fits into a named type or not.

So... thing is, I think body type is more accurately gleaned from measurements across the width of your front, not all the way around. Like what is the width of your shoulders, waist and hips? As opposed to circumference...

I have broad shoulders, a defined waist but a bust that is the same as my hips. Here's the thing: I could be a inverted triangle but my bust and hips are the same, I could be a top hourglass but I have a small bust, I could be a rectangle but I have a defined waist.

Measurements:
Shoulders: 36in
Bust: 29
Waist: 21
Hips: 30

Thank you in advance!
