Awwww, you guys are SWEET- Trinity from Matrix is hot and would love to look like her. The sad thing is I was in unbelievably good shape before I had my son. He's more than worth it, of course - but I wish I'd appreciated how good I looked and felt back then.

Will get to some proper photos per Angie's instructions. It is hard not to suck in the gut and try to hide the "flaws" in photos....

AG - I don't know what your body-type is - but just wanted you to know that whatever it is, it's beautiful! We (women in general) are much too hard on ourselves and our FAB bodies!
I guess I'm going to have to do one of these posts aren't I? I think I know what my body type is - but I may just be telling myself that in order to avoid posting THE pic!

Whatever your body type (I'm guessing you will be a Rectangle or fall just over the line into IT) you have a super-fit looking shape! Very kick-arse now/take names later.

If you read Angie's recs you'll see you have many options for dress shapes, but as a hip-challenged sort myself I find more pronounced A lines often droop sadly without roundness to fill them out, but very mild ones will work.

Sheaths will underscore straight lines, which is fine if that's your goal, but when I wear them I will usually try to push my silhouette to a more rounded one by pairing them with a jacket/top that creates a defined waist.

For necklines I usually buy (or have altered to) V or scoopnecks -- otherwise I feel very block-on-block.

[The wider-set the V or U the broader your shoulders will look, so you may want to keep an eye on that and go for straps/Us/Vs that sit closer to your neck.]

Did you say you were short-waisted in another thread? If so, I avoid natural-waist dresses like the plague -- empire or no-waisted only pls thx!

Maybe try a shirtdress with a slightly flared skirt? Seems like it would fit your rather tailored style and could be funk'd up/down depending on fabric and/or color.

ps Dresses with tulip/tapered skirts (draped!!) will amp up the hourglass factor.

I would also guess inverted triangle, but I am no expert. I like your gunslinger pose :). Re. dresses (again I'm no expert): I would think sheath dresses would be great, or a shirtdress style...I'm thinking Angie has done blog posts about body shapes and various clothing options, including sheath dresses, but I'm not a pro at the search function.

I think to balance a narrow hip you want a neckline that cuts up your shoulderline. So, not something that hits right at your shoulder, but maybe covers it completely (a fitted, 3/4 sleeve), or cuts in a bit (a halter neckline)

AK girl, have you tried sheath dresses? If you're a rectangle I think sheath dresses are supposed to be good?

I'm not an expert, but that's my two cents. (-:

AG, I think you're right about being an IT though your secondary category could be rectangle or apple. I have a similar body type (and I'm the same height) though I'm probably packing about 10+ lbs more than you so my apple tendencies are much more apparent!

One thing is for sure, alaskagirl, you are beautiful! I think you are a rectangle with inverted triangle tendencies.

Waiting for other ladies with similar shapes to advise you about dress choices. I'm a tall hourglass, so I'm not really sure.

Well, I'm sorry to say this after all the work you've done to post these pictures here, but I believe you are supposed to stand with your feet together so it can be seen if your shoulders are wider than your hips, or visa versa.

Congratulations on taking the risk in posting. I envy your shoulders and good posture. I'd agree on inverted triangle, but I don't think apple. Does a bit of a belly make you an apple if you are otherwise a different shape?

You are beautiful in the first photo. I don't know why you can't find dresses. I have the same problem--dresses are serendipity. I am much taller than you though. I hope someone can give you dress suggestions.

How I've dreaded posting these photos! Here's me. 5'1", 32D, no butt, wide shoulders, no waist (or high and long waisted). I'm a size 4 to 6, depending on brand.

What is my body type? I'm thinking inverted triangle from the front, apple from the side. Although I was not as apple pre-PG, never have my abs been flat, even at my lowest weight 20 pounds ago.

And what dress styles are best for me? I have the WORST time finding dresses I like that fit and look good.

TIA.
