Welcome, Jayne! I look forward to seeing you post a photo.

The body type guidelines on the blog itself are the best place to start. And then of course it's important to understand they are *just guidelines*. We break them all the time here on YLF in clever, flattering and stylish ways - but it's a good idea to be able to walk before you can run. That's why we have body type guidelines.

Hope that makes sense

Thanks so much! I will actually get dressed tomorrow (been bumming around over the vacation period) and try to get a photo out there!

What a nice welcome!

So exciting!

Welcome to the forum! You are in the right place, I have discovered my own style by sticking around, posting pictures, and asking questions like, does this work on me, should I keep or return this item.

Did you read all of Angie's blog posts about dressing for different body types? Which shape felt most like "you"?

You should take pictures of yourself in form fitting clothing (such as tights or leggings and a form fitting top -- I took my picture wearing all black because it is slimming {smiles}). (Sorry if this is obvious to you already). Since you are not an active member yet, you can use Photobucket and provide a link in your thread.

I would also like to recommend another blog that many members here refer to. it is called Inside out style. Imogen writes brilliantly about dressing for different body types. http://www.insideoutstyleblog.com/

Welcome, Jayne!!

Yours is a great idea. We have suggested a function like this to Greg and Angie and I believe they are considering it and/or figuring out how to make it work, but if you use the contact form to make that suggestion, maybe you'll get more details from the man himself!

In the meantime, do you feel confident that you have typed your body shape correctly? If not, please post pics and we can help you out, and if so, then you're off to the races!

If you read various members' posts and look at their pics you will soon learn who has a similar shape to yours. However, even within a shape there is SO much variation! So it's wise to consider height, proportions and colouring as well when considering what styles will best suit you.

One really fun function of this forum is that sometimes members with different body shapes will buy the same item and show it and we can see how it looks on various body shapes; a fascinating glimpse into the dressing room that probably none of us could get anywhere else! The Bailey 44 dress from Anthropology is a recent example; if you look for that in the archives you'll pull up lots of posts! And I (a slim hourglass/rectangle) have the same dress as Celia (anhourglass-pretty pear) and Kari (a taller curvy hourglass). It looks nice on all of us, but in a different way.

Currently, the only way to see what shape someone is - is via their profile page; I am unaware of a sort function for this.

As to if you need to look at everyone; I suppose there is no 'need' to do anything - but I draw inspiration from people of all shapes and sizes, especially when it comes to colour parings

Hi

I am new to the forum, and I read the post about body shape and whether it limited you from style options. As you all described your experience it occurred to me that I am looking for inspiration for finding my style for my body shape....is there a way you are all 'sorting' members by shape to be able to read the WIW that match your own shape, or is it not important for me to look for others like myself but more read all posts? I am really struggling to find what my style is and what suits me.
