Considering how many people my age I know who are coping with illnesses, surgeries, and injuries, I am grateful for my health and my body’s ability to do lots of things I enjoy doing. I’m trying to focus more on that than what my body looks like, because let’s face it, we only get older, and everything changes with age.

I like my eyes and eyebrows. I think that’s partly why glasses are fun-statement specs draw attention to my eyes.

Lately I’m appreciating the curve of my calves and my collarbones.

I relate to others who are appreciating their bodies for carrying them through illnesses. I’m grateful for my body for making it through some tough times and trying to treat it with more love.

My favourite body part is my arms. They always seem to be firm and lean. I never have to worry about wearing sleeveless tops or dresses. I wear toppers because I am cold, not to cover up. As I get older, I have appreciated that, rather than just take it for granted.

Thanks so much for this thread.
I like my ears actually, they’re rather delicate and sweet looking. Important as I love statement earrings and wearing a high ponytail so they’re on display quite a bit lol.
I also like that my feet are not fussy. Rather lucky there I think.
The silvery grey streaks in my hair are pretty cool too, as they mesh in with the blonde highlights and give a middle-aged beach babe look imho.
Funnily enough, I also think my crows feet are kinda cute lol.
Now I need to try to come to a peaceful mind about my other body parts....

@themom yayyyy, butt love! Lol I never thought about it like that, in terms of reducing the perception of girth, but you're right! It can be annoying to find clothes that fit right, but I'm starting to embrace the S curve that I get in pencil skirts & trousers - even if it isn't considered 'good' fit.

@cindysmith glad to hear you found the thread useful - you're welcome! Lol I've been going grey since I was 16, so maybe I should learn to embrace mine too - only problem is my hair is naturally black & curly, so it's quite a stark contrast to see wiry grey (not white) hairs sticking out of jet black hair. Maybe if I got streaks, like Rogue from X-men, it would look more intentional haha!

I'm not a fan of my large thighs or my thicker waist, but at least I can dress to camouflage/de-emphasize those.

As much as I don't like the weight gain, I have to say it's been well distributed EVERYWHERE, so I died laughing when my mom asked if I had gotten a bewb job (seriously, I was much amused). I think my butt looks good in pants; so I'm not mad at it getting bigger, I just think of it in terms of J-Lo or Kim K. West. I've embraced my grey hair, because I earned every one of them LOL; and they're a bright silver white as long as I remember to use my finishing cream that keeps grey a bright tone. I've always loved my eyes, a clear pale blue.

As I struggle to figure out how to lose the weight, it's been easy to get depressed over the things that make it difficult (COPD, old injuries, current lack of space for yoga). This thread has been a much needed change of perspective for me, so thank you for that!

My body has an amazing ability to heal. I haven't had to have many surgical procedures but whenever I've had one, I bounced back much faster than predicted. I'm energetic (most of the time) and love to move. I appreciate what my body can do, and how it makes me feel, but I'm also pretty happy with the way it looks. I don't really dress to disguise supposed "flaws" or to play up supposed "strengths" but if I had to name a feature that has brought both me and other people joy, I'd say my smile, which goes pretty well with anything.

I would say I love my butt Even big as it is I like how it makes outfits look, some curve to accentuate and balance out the other girth. And I hope I gave my height to my little one. 5"7' doesn't sound like a giant but in a family that hangs between 5"2' and 5"5' it is enough!

Nice thread. I’m struggling with weight gain and injuries sustained from all the exercise to help me lose that weight! So I’ve not been happy with my body in general. However, I can say I always like my clavicles showing in certain tops no matter what I weigh. My hands/wrists make me happy too from an aesthetic point of view. I also appreciate them for what they do every day...work, play, cooking, etc.

I like my overall proportions and height, and in particular my arms, my broad shoulders (thanks Dad), my hair (thanks Mom) and my long, narrow feet, even though they are a royal pain when it comes to finding shoes that fit well. Thank you, Zaeobi, for starting this thread. It’s been uplifting to take a few minutes to consider what I like about myself, instead of always zeroing in on the things I don’t like and would like to change.

@Gigi I second the powerful thighs - I used to hate my 'thunder' thighs & constant chub rub, but at least they keep me warm! Pro tip: if you've ever taken a chocolate bar or something similar straight out of the fridge & it's too cold, stick it between your thighs for a bit & it'll warm right up. Useful thighs, lol!

@Cardiff Girl we all have things that we don't like about ourselves - think that's normal, after all. But if you think you're well proportioned, that's great too - you just need to wear clothes that show off your rocking figure

Same goes for you too, @rachylou & @Angie! Sorry to hear you were sick but glad you're feeling better now! I was also sick this week but have recovered now - it's amazing how we sometimes take our bodies for granted until they need maintenance repairs, right lol? I feel you on feeling cold though, @rachylou - maybe some sheer fabrics could help keep you covered up whilst showing of your figure too?

@JenniNZ yayyyy for feet! That's also another body part we tend to take for granted - they take us everywhere we need to go without complaining (most of the time anyway, lol!) I also find a new pair of shoes the easiest & quickest way to update an outfit & make it look more modern if I'm struggling with the rest of my look. And you know how I feel about big behinds already - keep wiggling that tush, lol!

@Aurore yes it's easy to fall into that trap of trying to attain unattainable perfection, right? I'm glad you like your proportions, though - keep rocking them alongside @Angie & @rachylou! Be proud to stand up tall - at least you don't have to struggle for the top shelf of everything like my short, 5ft3.5 self does (& yes, that extra half inch is VERY important, lol!)

@harmonica no problem, glad others could benefit from it too! Sounds like you have a lot to celebrate & be grateful for - isn't it amazing how someone else's perspective can change how we think & feel about ourselves? Sometimes we get so wrapped up in hating the part of us that aren't 'perfect' that we forget that those same parts can be considered perfect already by others.

@Mainelady At under 5ft4, I'm right there with you on 'small but mighty' - I believe we're just 'fun sized', lol! What a wonderful way to tie your body parts to what they can do - another way we often take our bodies for granted, for sure. Shapely calves are lovely too, although I often have difficulty finding boots that fit because of them, lol!

@danusia Great, you should treat your hardworking feet to some nice shoes, lol!

@Babs yes like I mentioned to @Aurore, it's very easy to fall into that trap. We think that losing weight will automatically make us happier & love our bodies, but it's not as easy as that. The happiness takes work. Sounds like you're getting there though, since I'm sure your smile shows it now - mine was also certainly more visible after I cut my hair, lol!

What a great thread! I've been thinking about this a lot lately, because over the past year I've lost quite a lot of weight, and realized that finding fault isn't a matter of size, it's a matter of habit. Right now I feel like I'm discovering myself again, and I'm learning to love everything, but I've especially loved the way my smile is much more visible now!

It is a much better use of my time to appreciate my body. I am small, but mighty. My body has protected, grown and birthed my babies. It has recovered from multiple abdominal surgeries. I am physically, mentally and emotionally strong. My eyes see the best in people. I have a kind and generous heart and very shapely calves! (Hahaha)

Great thread! Thanks for starting it, Zaeobi! I actually like my whole body, but especially my legs, arms/hands, hair and brain. My legs are strong and have never let me down, whithout my arms I couldn't do all the things I love (cooking, sewing, writing, embracing my loved ones), my hair is healthy, thick and shiny and my brain is creative and capable of healing mental struggles. I've also come to love the softness of my apple mid section because adorable DS3 think it's the softest and warmest body part of his mum.

What a great, motivating thread idea! Thinking of what I like about my body rather than what I don't...is not natural for the perfectionnist in me.
But it sure feels good to discover I do like it : I'm pleased with my overall proportions and with my stature. Having a tall and somewhat sturdy body actually helps me to feel strong!

Well since I aged my fave had become my feet. They didn't change size when the rest of me did, but what I mainly appreciate is that they still look like my feet in my 20s- no bunions or arthritis, and sandals are one of my favourite things.
On a body-positive note though, I decided to embrace my big bottom! At our friend's 60th birthday party last night I had fun wiggling it during the song "It's all about that bass"

I quite like my whole figure, but you know there is no particular part I like to showcase... I know that this is a thing. It’s that I am so cold all the time - I’m mostly concerned with how to bundle it all up! Lol

WOOOHOOOO. LOVE THIS THREAD.

Zaeobi, I adore your shorter crop. It's cheeky, modern and playful, which seems to suit your personality. I'm pleased its grown on you. I loved it right away.

Gigi, l'm blessing your fleshy and powerful thighs with you. Womanly and gorgeous. Rock on.

Cardiff girl, a fably positive perspective. We are blessed with emotional comfort and wisdom as we age. An incredible right of passage.

I'm going with my whole body. I am especially reminded of its incredible self-healing power since I just had awful gastric flu, but felt 100% after 7 days. I'm also a high-energy person, and so very grateful to not tire quickly.

There are things that I would like to change but I won’t bore you with that,However I can say that overall I m pretty happy with my general proportions Not too slender, not too well covered, not overly short or tall,I haven’t always felt like this but I think having my daughter and getting older have put any body issues into the non important pile where they belong.
