I am grateful for my feet especially. I’ve been doing more walking for health and they are coping well with this. They’re also my favourite body part and fit many shoes in my size, which makes me happy

What a great thread! I'm happy that my body responds when I decide it's time for change. I love the feeling when I get on skis and muscle memory kicks in. I'm currently very grateful to see my cheekbones re-emerging as my health kick continues, and glad to feel new strength and energy.

I am grateful for my mind - it’s critical thinking skills, language capacity, emotional intelligence, and keen ability to interact socially with family and friends. I love that my strong legs - inherited from my dad - have never failed me. I am healthy emotionally and physically and do not take those things for granted. I am grateful for the hands - so like my mom’s - that can type, play piano, and create. For my ears and my eyes which amplify my communication skills, I am indebted. Thank you for this thread.

Great thread! I am very grateful that I don't have any joint or foot problems that would prevent me from dancing. I have taken ballroom dance lessons for the past few years and find it very therapeutic. I feel bad for people who have to be very careful about how many dances they dance in an evening because they have some kind of hamstring issue or joint pain, etc.

I am grateful that I am able to play musical instruments and do not have wrist or finger issues that would prevent this.

Dh and I did genetic tests, and I am so incredibly grateful to learn that I have NO genetic indicators of increased risk of diseases. Nor does Dh, for that matter, meaning our children could not have inherited anything detrimental (though I am aware that random mutations can and do occur, so inheritance is not the only factor).

Today I am most grateful for my large, strong, veiny hands. They are my mother's capable and loving hands. She passed away two months ago, 4 days before her 96th birthday. I look down and see them on the keyboard or performing a routine task, and I see her, and feel her presence. I am so very grateful to have had such a wonderful mother for so long.

Grateful for my healthy body that had 3 babies every day! Including gratitude for having such great energy that I didn't know I was anemic. My doctors tried to bait me into complaining... "Are you a tired mom?" I told them, I have been exercising lately and feel better than I do in years! And yet more gratitude to my body...

I am most grateful for my amazing size 10 (and a half!) feet, which have never given me a moment of trouble. No bunions, plantar-whatever-it-is, arch problems, heel spurs, etc. I read so many issues you all have with finding appropriate footwear because of painful problems, I can't imagine! My only problem is the elusive size 10 1/2 shoe!

I am indescribably grateful for the capacity for resilience and healing that my body has demonstrated again and again, and for living in a highly developed country in the 21st century with medical advancements and options for disease and pain management. I am grateful to walk and function again without pain after back surgery, and to have recently discovered muscles I did not previously know I had. I am grateful I inherited my father's mental focus and determination that helps me get back up again after illness or surgery and do the necessary work. This time I am coming back better than ever!

I am so grateful for being alive, having survived several serious accidents and emergency cases.

Grateful for, against all odds, having been able to train my hands (which were severely damaged when I was a baby) to do all the things the doctors predicted I would never be able to do, including playing the piano.

Deeply grateful for, so far, not having cancer or other deadly diseases, unlike so many people who are, and were, dear to me.

Most of all, I am deeply thankful to the Grand Creator of the amazing human body with its marvellous abilities. I heartily agree with king David, who sang to God: "I praise you because in an awe-inspiring way I am wonderfully made. Your works are wonderful, I know this very well." --Psalm 139:14 in the Bible.

Lovely idea! I'm grateful for my mobility which allows me to go salsa dancing at age 60. Not much makes me happier than being able to move with music, and I'm so fortunate that I've been able to do that for over 20 years and still can, although I do have to forgo the deeper dips these days!

Super thread. Your amazing stories have made me appreciate my own body even more.
Since it’s not too long ago, I am still massively grateful for and in awe of my body for, despite looking (and sometimes feeling) fragile, having created and nourished a whole new person from embryo up until a 6 month old, strong healthy boy all on its own.
(By which I mean I was also awed by the act of nursing and the fact that baby could subsist on mother’s milk alone for so long. I must keep respecting what’s left of my breasts for the hidden power they contain.)

This thread is a wonderful idea! I am so impressed by all the posts.
I am grateful for my body which also houses my mind, my spirit and my emotions. My body has recovered well from 2 c-sections, a hysterectomy and an open appendectomy. Other than those surgeries I have had very few health related challenges. My immune system is strong (most likely due to 36 years in the classroom). I have more energy and stamina than most people I know. I can easily keep up with my husband, children, grandson and our dogs. I am grateful and happy that the condition of my body has not yet set any limits on what I can do (except for reach the top shelves in my kitchen and closets).
In addition to my physical health and strength, I am grateful for my mental, spiritual and emotional strength. I am grateful that my heart is open and it is easy for me to see the positives and to find joy.

So many good thoughts about my body--

A few weeks ago an in-law had 2 strokes and the tests discovered serious previously unknown issues, including a heart damaged by childhood rheumatic fever, that will slow his recovery. He is 3 years younger than I, who also had childhood rheumatic fever. I was treated as a very fragile child, with lots of worries about possible heart damage--this was post WWII when antibiotics were not widely available or known to work for this disease. Happy to know that I have no heart issues--despite always being treated as fragile--and am going strong.

A year ago I started doing push ups--from a high counter. Well, a year later I can do a few from the floor, but can do 2-3 sets easily from an 18" bench. Beneficial: you bet. I will give you a further report when I return from my 60th high school reunion next year. Maybe I'll wear a sleeveless dress!

Part of my good health lies in having had good genes, part in my ongoing interest in health and diet. My Mom was diagnosed with colon cancer at age 57, shortly after my first child was born, (she lived to be almost 93) but I have kept informed on diet, exercise and good health practices ever since then.

Sorry to go on so long, but my childhood experience made me very aware of the importance of good health from a young age.

Oh, and I can't forget to add that I have good bone density. Thankful for that as well.

Thanks for starting this thread, suntiger. Much of this has been on my mind the last few weeks.

Great idea Suntiger!! Many wonderful stories already told.

I am grateful for a strong body allowing me to stay fit and healthy - and not impede with my work or family life. My Mum has RA since about my age and I have seen the effects it has had on her life.

Janet - I have had panic attacks in the past and they stemmed from poor shallow breathing. Hyperventilation syndrome. I can forward you some info if this is relevant. I still can get into bad breathing patterns at times - signs can be yawning, tingling fingers etc. your situation may of course be different - they are awful at the time.

I had ectopic pregnancy when I was 25, almost died because it was not diagnosed on time, had internal bleeding and my right tube had to be removed. After surgery when I was waking up from anesthesia my dr informed me that I will not be able to have kids on my own. My body proved him wrong - 2 healthy kids for whom I am eternally grateful.

These days I am so damn grateful for my strong bones. My mom’s osteoporosis was terrible during the last decade of her life, and she broke bones doing things like pulling laundry out of the machine, or even sneezing! My bones are strong enough to push and pull against my muscles, bonk into cabinet doors and car fenders without damage— great stuff.
