Another who keeps just the layering kinds. I do have a couple that I'll use with baggy bottoms, namely a pair of very fitted black turtlenecks (one sleeved, one sleeveless). Especially in warmer weather I much prefer breezier knits. But I do still wear fitted-bordering-bodycon sweaters in winter; I usually just have one of these in my wardrobe at a time though.

I got rid of all mine (except the ones I use to layer) after seeing a picture of me wearing one and feeling HORRIBLE. I looked so much better in fitted tops before pregnancy and a c-section. Now it's just not a look I enjoy, whether it's in or not. But I see a place for it with baggy bottoms and would still sport that look if I had the abs for it!

I am coming to the conclusion that layer ones are okay for me. It's the few close fit tops I have that were meant as stand alones that I don't want anymore. Glad I sussed that out he he.
This woven front berry one just never fit my bust and the fall colored surplice one is just soooo snug everywhere. Off they go . . .

I've purged most of the body con tops I owned and have replaced them with body skimming tops. I think if the tops are tight they don't even feel that good layered (to me). I can't stand a tight cami either - and recently purchased a body skimming cami to try out. Wearing a bra is enough constriction to me. :-)
I think it depends. You have to judge each item individually. I purged a bunch of tops like this last year because they showed my belly too easily (like a 21-22" top).

I do not think a layering tee is dated though, so be careful not to over-purge. Look at all of the more fitted tees here, Vince, Velvet, Splendid, LNA etc are all doing a more fitted tee. As well as oversized and more tailored fits.
http://www.shopbop.com/actions.....uggestion=

I'm not wearing body-con tops really at all anymore, but I am still wearing whatever the equivalent is of a tailored knit top - something that's still fitted, but body-skimming instead of skin-tight. I particularly like these with more voluminous bottoms.

The nice side benefit of losing weight during the current "fashion moment" is that my formerly body-con knit tops now fit in a more relaxed way, so I don't have to do much shopping to achieve my preferred silhouette. Bonus!

I don't think I have any stand alone body con tops, now that I think about it. I have a few snugger tees, but they are for under my work uniform, and a few tanks/camis for under blouses. Everything else is loose! I think keeping a few around for layering is a good idea.

Are we talking skin tight body con, show your belly button body con? I've not been into that fit for about 10 years. But if we are talking body skimming, neatly tailored then no, I am not giving up a single one. They balance many of my trousers and skirts, are no fuss and are a fundamental part of how my wardrobe remains functional.

Yeah, I guess I now only see them as a layer option, whereas before they stood alone as a basic top in an outfit. Add to it, most of my uniform tops at work are this type of tee. That really makes me not want to wear something similar in my 'off' time!
Guess I need to reevaluate each one as a possible layer or not.

I live in Northern California, and I live in layers. It is rare for me not to wear a cami/tank, but it is also rare for me to wear a body con tank or shirt by itself.
I don't think body con knits are dated per se, it is just that it's not my style to wear them alone (and perhaps it is a style that you are moving away from as well).

I can tell you that body con knits are certainly worn all the time by high school girls, even those who are fashion forward

I am finding I want to purge every last one of these from my closet. I know we are moving toward a looser silhouette, but surely I should have at least a few layer tops for under snug jackets, some sweaters, etc. I only have 2 slim fit long sleeve tops and then layer tanks left. Am I getting too far ahead of myself or have you all tossed your snug tees as 'dated' as well?
