I'm glad to hear Angie likes this because I looked at the pictures before I read your comments and I thought it was a keeper. It probably helps that I was immediately drawn to this top when Angie originally posted it and I'm bummed that it's sold out in my size.

You are absolutely right about the V-shape of the eyelet pattern de-emphasizing the bust. It works well.

If you come back, Angie, before the order came in I had posed the question of whether the lacework acts as a sort of v-neck in breaking up the vast fabric area. Now that you see it on me, do you see this top as helping to de-emphasize the bust? It's hard for me to objectively decide. xoxo

Oh, there's always the possibility that Angie will like something and then all bets are off for deciding on a K/R. It would have to be pretty killer, though. I will consider that. Maybe the side-bra issue is not a dealbreaker, but putting that aside, is it awesome on me, or just a sort of "nice enough" little top? I'll sit with it for a while. I love the color and it's very well made. Price means it has to be really a 9 at least. Thanks, Angie and all.

Actually ladies, I don't see a problem with the armholes. The black bra works well. It's just a bit of bra and not a boob!

The rest of the blouse fits nicely too. The eyelet is gorgeous, and the silhouette is quite streamlined - especially for this style of top.

Love the top Mochi but I'm with you, poor fit it the armhole and visible bra would be deal breakers for me too in a summer top.

I've done a lot of different alterations on garments and fixing a too-low armhole is one of the most complex, surprisingly enough, because you have to make the changes in the shoulder area which can change the whole fit/shape. As you said, wearing a cami is a solution but not for something you want to wear in warm weather.

I personally don't mind a little visible bra strap around the upper chest area (can wear a nude bra) but when more of the bra shows I don't like it.

You've inspired me to go give Boden another look, and to continue being picky about fit. Thanks!

I have one or two other Boden pieces, but I'm thinking the brand may not work for me. In this same order I'm also returning two linen tees, which were huge and kind of shapeless and I didn't like the gape-y necklines. The fabric was sturdy and high-quality (though the linen still was sheer and requiring of a layer underneath--when will someone make non-transparent linen summer tops?). Again, free shipping/returns so I tried!

On another note I'm glad I'm not the only one attracted to Boden stuff, hehe. I have and wear three different dark blue tops from there.

You know, I'm sure I gave a cursory look at the pics of the white version on a living model, but I was too entranced with the pic of the blue top. Had I paid more attention, I would have noticed that the fit is very boxy (even on a very straight-figured model, it's super obvious), she is clearly wearing a white underlayer---and I think there is an intentional hiding of the armhole area, but if you zoom in on their webpage you can even see how the underlayer is visible. So I was hasty to order. However, I'm remembering now how I had some concerns, but there was a special with free shipping AND free returns, so I figured why not try.

Another super helpful review! I agree with your analysis and decision to return. You will find something better. I just spent a lot of time trying to tailor a top that really just doesn't suit me...and now I feel I need to wear it, knowing I'll feel less than fab. Good for you on avoiding that same mistake!

It is a beautiful color for you Mochi… and the lacy effect at the neckline is so lovely on you… but I agree that the deep armholes make this a deal breaker. You are smart to keep looking.

That's awesome, Sheila. I suppose I could wear a nude bra and the bra would not be too visible in that case. But I'd still be bugged by the armhole issue and overall, the shape didn't seem very flattering on me. I do love substantial fabrics (maybe one reason I love jackets so much), but in this case, a softer drape might have worked better for me...

I bought this top in white and mine does not gap under the arms. And I suppose a little bra might show through, but I have other embroidered summer tops that also have a little bit of show-and-tell and, for a casual summer top, I don't mind this. I like how the cut of the sleeves hides the nasty areas of my upperarms. Just sayin'...at my age, one is grateful for even the smallest blessing!

Thanks for the review. I saw this top months ago and was disappointed that it didn't fit into my budget and my size is now sold out. I see it wouldn't have worked for me. The big arm holes and visibility of bra would've been deal breakers. Sometimes I can take in a sleeveless blouse at the shoulders pretty easily; not sure how hard it would be on this one.

It is a gorgeous color. I would have had to return it for the exact same reasons you mentioned. Nothing makes me madder than having to wear a camisole under a top to make it wearable in public. The logic eludes me. I stopped looking at Eileen Fisher tops altogether because her stuff always requires a camisole.

Thanks, Ledonna. I think the issue with the armholes, and also the bad drape around the stomach, might be fixable through alterations. But the bra visibility in the front--I can't imagine what could be done about it outside of wearing a layer underneath.

It's a beautiful, rich indigo color and the fabric is a sturdy, high-quality weave. The lace-like detail around the neckline had also attracted me to this top. I'd said I needed some pretty tops. Unfortunately I don't think it'll work for me.

Overall it seemed TTS or maybe even a tad big, but perhaps it's supposed to be a little roomy. But the shape doesn't help with my apple belly.

Another thing is that for me, the lacework came low enough so that it showed a little bit of my bra. Perhaps only I would have known, but it's not something I'd feel good about.

Lastly, the armholes are deep and so the side of my bra peeked through. Of course a cami could be a solution, but if you're wearing this top in summer, it defeats the whole purpose.

On to the next thing.
