For nursing-bra camis, I personally loved the Target Gillian and O'Malley version and had it in several colors. It washed well over and over, was soft and comfortable, and had nice length but not too much length. You can't beat the price either. I'm 5'7" and usually wear a women's med or large top and I wear a medium in this tank. I would wear them under just about anything.

http://www.target.com/p/women-.....A-13793418

Glamourmom and Bravado are some other brands with similar camis.

Fwiw, I found the cuddleduds black jacket at marshalls for $20. (Picked one up for my mom for Christmas.)

Aubergine, Suja, and lisaflex, thank you for sharing your washing experiences with these toppers. It sounds encouraging.
Karymk, that is an excellent solution. Does anyone know of a similar topper in what is basically sweatshirt material or fleece?
Lenni, you are very wise and understand the needs of a new mom. I really like the Cudfleduds version. The others don't look like they would provide as much modesty coverage but look easy care and comfy. Thank you for all the links and tracking down so many toppers. What brand and style of nursing bra tank tops do you recommend? DDIL is a size small, about 5'5".

I have a couple of these that I wore while nursing my son. I love them! They are so warm and comfy and gave me enough coverage that I could use them while nursing outside without an additional nursing cover. I honestly didn't even look at the care instructions and just put them through the washer and dryer with all the other kids stuff. They might have shrunk a tiny amount, but not much. Highly recommend!

I keep looking at these myself (I like the plaid version) but the washing instructions have made me hesitate too. I'm a mom of three including a 2 year-old and I enjoy and wear my clothes that are easily washable more than those that require special care, including even a special gentle cycle. (I do hang dry many items and find that isn't inconvenient.)

For a new mom, I would definitely err on the side of easy care. Everything gets messy from everything imaginable. I found I couldn't wear anything more than once and sometimes had to change my own outfit during the day! Babies make so much laundry!

Here are some cuddly fleecy things that would work well for a new mom, nursing or not. You might find that more gear-oriented shops/departments might have tops that wash well.

Also, I personally found nursing bra tank-tops perfect for breastfeeding and would wear them under just about everything.

What a great idea for a nursing mom! I would try to find a wash n wear knock off. Milk will get sprayed, as you know! When she is done nursing she can get the high end version...What do you think Joy? Merry Christmas!!!

I have one of these and have washed it and dried on low. I got it in the smaller of the two sizes I could have gone for, and it's held up just fine with no noticeable shrinkage.

Amy and Kelly, thank you for your helpful comments. I'm not sure if this piece is a good idea. I wonder if sizing up would allow enough for shrinkage.

I have it in taupe and haven't noticed shedding. I machine wash on gentle and air dry it because I can't afford it to shrink. I *think* it would be fine in the dryer on gentle but haven't tried it. It would make a great nursing piece in my opinion. It's very soft and cozy too! I've seen these at Marshall's for lower than the sale price I saw at Nordstrom, FWIW.

I have it (or a last year version anyway). It machine washes just fine, but it sheds fuzzies all over whatever I wear under it (namely, my black pants were covered with lint from it). I've only worn it once (for a trade show), so I'm not sure whether it keeps doing it, or whether it only happens when it's new.

My DDIL is looking for tops that lend themselves to nursing. She likes the look of this Bobeau topper. The washing instructions are to hand wash and line dry. Does anyone have this piece? Can it be machine washed and dried on delicate? A new baby leaves no time for hand washing. Your thoughts are appreciated.
