I love a light pink and think it is better next to my skin than the warmer blush shades - thanks for the clarification!

You know it's funny, but although I wear warm toned shades I ordered a slightly warm toned blush sweater a while back and it just ended up blending too much with my skin tone. My blush leather jacket is quite peachy and I think pretty saturated, so I think it's a fine line between getting enough contrast to my skin.

I ordered some blush fabric for a draped trench a while back and although I did see a sample of it, when the length arrived all I could think of was that it seemed a bit too clear in tone and might look a tad too icy. I'm hoping it'll work... if not...another wasted length of fabric :(

oh i'm so confused.....i always have issues with where one color stops and another starts....and warm vs cool, saturated vs ....i don't even know what the opposite of saturated is.....off to re-read to see if i can make sense of this.

I love the idea of blush but I have no idea what shade I should be wearing. I was intrigued by the idea of a blush blazer for Spring, but after trying a couple only to have them look terrible on me, I gave up. My feeling is that shades with "icy" or "muddy" descriptors aren't good directions for me, but I don't know where to look instead. I guess the opposites are "warm" and "saturated" ... but is that still blush?

I had a try at the blush and black, too. Keeping it real and very casual! I will wear it again and would like to try some lighter accessories with it.
I would just call this pale pink. It helps me a bit to look for 'warm, clear and light ' colours to suit me. But like Maneera I can't recognise warm or cool tones well. I'm not colour blind, AFAIK.

My version would be pink-toned, but I usually shy away from anything described as blush because I find it too pale. I could find ways to wear it - probably in small doses away from my face - but it's not really a shade that appeals to me very much. I prefer something with a little more colour, such as rose.

My favorite blush tone is the color of the jacket that you have in Finds.

Peri, your rose looks lilac to my eye!

Barbara, those more saturated pastels are called mid-tones. I bet you look great in those too.

Staysfit and Vicki, I'm thinking ice pink.

Windchime and Beth Ann, go for it. Try a cooler shade of blush.

So Angie, where do you draw the line? At what point does blush become pink? I much prefer the shade in your rocks picture over any of the shades in the clothing examples. My favorite shade of pastel pink...exactly the color of the rose beside my name! But I wouldn't refer to that as blush, just pink.

After the black and pastel post I looked at my wardrobe. Even including my lifetime wardrobe I realized that what I consider pastels are really probably closer to medium saturated. Just much less saturated than what I normally wear.

Icy blush would definitely work better on me. The one shirt I own I thought might fit this is a print, and I think the other colors made it work, even though it is a warm color. I like that with this clarification I understand blush a lot more. Now I know I don't like the "muddy" tones on me. Actually, no muddy tones in any color.

I'm glad you posted this, Angie! After reading today's blog post, I assumed I wouldn't be able to wear the blush/black ensemble, much as I admire it. But I'm pretty sure I can wear icy pink. I used to wear soft pink years (decades!) ago, when my hair was dark brown and my complexion was lighter.

As for the wearing of blush, I have a blush blouse that was on the chopping block and I may have to take a closer look. It's pretty and has enough of a hint of color to not wash me out. I want a neutral blush that isn't too pink or too peachy, if that's possible.

A lot of people mentioned that the color does not go with their skin tone. In those cases, I try to get bottoms (vs. tops) in those colors even if the color does not suit me.

Angie - I really meant I have always been attracted to the dustier shades and thought they worked better, but I really think I have been wrong about that and that maybe I just need to try other blush options and see if I can find the right one. Ice pink would be more like a neon pink? Like these?

I usually feel that most blush tones I see won't work with my skin color. However, the Topshop dress below just showed up on the Nordstrom web site and looks a bit deeper than most blushes. The low price point, however, makes me wonder if it would reveal every little lump, bump and panty and bra line even with a size up.

The day you posted your first blog post about blush, Oak (one of my favorite edgy brands) released a line of basic tops in blush to go along with their usual black and white. It reinforced the idea that blush can look edgy or pretty or refined or whatever you want, in different contexts. I have no idea if their color is too peachy for me -- I have to go try on a few different pinks to get a sense for it, since it's new for me.

I find that peachier blush shades are easier to locate than the cool light pinks, maybe because so many women have rejected "baby" pastels as unsophisticated, but think of nude blush as a neutral. I always keep an eye out for cool pink items--tops especially--and when I see them, I jump!

Maneera, that top is absolutely going to work for you. Wear it with black

Tanya, you wear icy blush with the best of them. YES. My CM top is a peachy blush - and warmer than the old Zara top we have (which is also quite warm, actually).

Aviah, go for it.

Ann, exactly.

Diana, you wear ice blush beautifully, as we can all see in your forum thread.

Tex, Diana said that the muddier shades (the warmer ones) do not work for her. But they work for you? I can imagine an ice pink working for you since you wear a lot of blue.

Unfrumped, you look great in mauve, but it is not blush!

And actually, peachy blush works well for me BECAUSE it is close to the colour of my peaches & cream skin tone. Interesting!

Ok point taken. I think I just need to do some work here and actually start looking before I just write it off. Maybe an adjustment with the makeup will help as well.
