Banded tops can be wonderful if the band is in the right place and the length of the garment is correct. These tops look good on rectangles and apple shaped body types in particular. Inverted triangles are hit or miss. The blouson effect is a lot more flattering than you might assume, though. I have a few and love them.

Maya, try one where the band hits you higher on the hip like Tanya suggested. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

I love that silhouette, Maya. I actually recently bought this Ella Moss top:

http://www.revolveclothing.com.....=shopstyle

but in these colors (which I like better):

http://www.neimanmarcus.com/st.....RShopstyle

and it works so well for me. I also have a top similar to that black one that is a favorite. But I will tell you, I think the silhouette works for me so well because I have a very very very small butt, so overall, that part of my body is very slim. I am actually a top heavy person, and this top works for me, because it drapes over my top, and I can pair it with skinny jeans to accentuate my legs and hips. If that's really not a part of your body you think you want to accentuate, I would recommend sticking to things that emphasize your waist. But try it, you never know. I hope I helped.

By the way, I always go search online if I see something on a girl in class I like. Just think - someone may see something you wear and want it just as badly. Haha.

I agree on that top Nicole, I just posted it as an example on F21.

Maya, how about something like this ( please ignore the price):
http://www.thetannery.com/Prod.....;sid=35321

The second F21 made the air look hippy. I think it's best to steer clear of too much fabric, too many pleats, and exaggerated bands on the bottom.

They have everything trendy, but the quality is usually not that good at all. But for one season it would do. For example:
http://www.forever21.com/produ.....038;Page=1
http://www.forever21.com/produ.....038;Page=1
http://www.forever21.com/produ.....8;Page=all
There's plenty more.

This last one is similar to mine.

That one called my name Tanya. The color and silhouette are gorgeous. The price is very ugly though :(

With any luck it will still be available in my size once I start bringing in a paycheck again later this month.

Nicole has a point about the volume balancing out the hips. I guess I'd need to try it on, but I could definitely see myself deluding myself into thinking it's flattering just because I love it so much already!

I have only been to F21 once. Do they have tops like this?

I think that one would certainly be easier to wear. I also found this:
http://bluefly.com/pages/produ.....sform=null

I think it could work well with straight leg jeans. Maybe you can go to some F21-type store to try bunch of them on and decide that way.

this one has the banding a little higher up. Perhaps it's just a matter of futzing with the length.

I think that that band on the bottom would make it somewhat difficult to wear, because it might hit a person at not so great spot. I have a fairly similar top in dark purple, the differences are that it's V-neck and has no bottom banding, and that one works OK for me. I do agree that the draping is beautiful.

I would think the volume that is created on the top portion would balance out a fuller hip. I also think what you wear on the bottom would make or break the top itself. I'd be more skeptical of this style working on someone who is top heavy, or broad shouldered.

Today a girl in my class was wearing a top similar to this and I was in awe. I just absolutely loved it! But I don't know if it's right for my body type. I don't think it is, sadly, but I wanted to run it by everyone.

http://bluefly.com/pages/produ.....allpartial

It seems like you'd need a slender frame, particularly on the bottom half to pull it off. The girl who was wearing it is very petite, longwaisted, and slim...a straight hourglass I'd say. I wonder if maybe a more voluminous sleeve, like a batwing or dolman sleeve would balance it out? But I'm prepared to hear a resounding "no." I just think the silhouette it created and the draping was beautiful.
