Great pieces!

I keep starting to upgrade and then I keep falling back to lesser quality, for various reasons (budget, summer heat ruins anything nice, my propensity for easy & casual items, etc.) I really need to step it up this fall!

Nice upgrades, especially that Theory blouse. This summer I finally upgraded to a Petit Bateau striped Breton because I realized I wear my navy and white striped tops to tatters every summer. The cut and fabric of the Petit Bateau is so much nicer than the less expensive versions I'd been wearing. I've also been upgrading my sweaters to cashmere and linen lately to replace cotton knits that fade and stretch. It makes so much sense because I'll reach for a T or sweater over a shirt or blouse every time.

Beautiful upgrades! I have been trying to do the same. I too have been suffering those darn hot flashes, add to it that we spend 3 months in the tropics. I do have a difficult time spending extra on tops though. They just seem to wear out so fast what with pit stains and those pesky counter holes. I'm thinking more and more that I will just have to do it.

Mochi, good point on making good purchases in the first place. That's a lesson I'm still learning!

Joy, you're right about cotton vs. silk. I'm becoming a huge fan of silk.

Suzyq, I'm not enough of a fabric expert to know if all silk blouses wrinkle a lot, but I do think that natural fibers are more wrinkle-prone.

Thanks for the support, lyn, deb, shedev, and Angie!

Fabulous upgrades! I have upgraded for the same reasons you mention. All year round I wear a tank layer. Mostly they were 100% cotton, but cotton can hold moisture and get uncomfortable. I look for silk versions on sale to replace the cotton and could not be happier.

Hi. Love your upgrades and get that we need more cooling relief from natural fibers. I've always been a snob that way anyway.

Because of that, for me at the moment it's not so much upgrading as making sure in the first place that what I'm buying now will have great wearability and longevity. I am really focusing on the long-term, well-made items. Which are jackets, shoes, sweaters, etc. I can find cheap but acceptable trousers, t-shirts and so forth so that's not the issue.

Literally in this last week I'm finally feeling like I have more wardrobe than wardrobe holes. So the concept of an upgrade seems luxurious to me!

Good luck with your upgrades, Parsley! Glad to be an inspiration.

LBD, it sounds like that AT jacket doesn't owe you a thing. Time to upgrade! As for the kicks....maybe the memory of the poo incident will fade in time and allow you to wear them without worry. And Gorilla glue is great...but Rhino glue is even better. :)

I love your upgrades!

I am in the process of upgrading my black AT knitwear jacket. I've worn that thing on an almost daily basis every fall and winter for five years, and it's still in great condition. I've re-dyed it black, and repaired a zipper pull (Gorilla Glue = best stuff ever! Better than duck tape) But I feel like I'm ready for something newer and fresher.

Also, I'm looking for new 'kicks', following an unfortunate 'didn't-know-I-stepped-in-dog-or-horse-poo-and-now-it-has-formed-a-spackle-like-bond-in-all-the-decorative-ridges-of-the-sole" incident yestserday. I scrubbed, and scrubbed, and sacrificed a pen to the cleaning gods working on those ridges. They are clean now... but in my mind, they will forever carry the taint of poo. TMI?

Gorgeous pieces, Nancy! Love the upgraded versions.

I am in the process of upgrading knits. I had a few sweaters last year that really did not perform well. I know it is always tricky to put too much money into knits because they don't last, no matter what -- but I have worked out that I wear them so frequently that even if they only last two seasons, two seasons of frequent wear mean relatively low CPW.

I have upgraded some summer shirts this year as well, adding a few silk items and passing along a few others that were worn or not quite right.

I've recently become a convert to natural fibers (thanks largely to hot flashes + summer heat!), and am in the process of upgrading some of my less-than-perfect workhorse blouses to silk versions that are more comfortable....and also more fluid in fabrication and in line with my elegant eclectic style.

Here are two originals and their upgrades:

#1 - BR polyester cream tie blouse (never fit right anyway!)
#2 - upgraded Theory cream silk blouse
#3 - BR navy tunic (too casual and the navy was too grayed for my coloring)
#4 - upgraded Joie navy silk blouse

It feels good to have more perfect versions of these blouses in my closet! I think they will be

Have you recently upgraded any of your pieces?
