I,m In the same boat. Cropped moto jackets can be fun. I’m 5’4 and can also shop in petites for fitted tops, jackets and dresses with a fitted waist. (Pants don’t work.) That can work for you too unless you’re too tall.

I agree with all the suggestions given so far and would add a couple of other things. I'm a short waisted pear too). Some of the proportion things can vary depending on your height. I'm very short (5'1") and look for blazers where the hem of the blazer hits just a bit ABOVE the widest part of the thighs/hips. To my eye if the jacket is longer than this it visually shortens the legs, which is something I try to avoid since I'm so short to begin with. A taller person would have different proportions. Janet's suggestion of a high/low hem is brilliant, that style works for me too, although they are not easy to find. The olive jacket shown below is a shape I think would work well on a short waisted pear, in particular because it has a little belt thing on the back waist which gives it shape, I have my eye on this jacket although I have not tried it on. A classic blazer needs to be fitted through the torso to work in my opinion. I have a really old Halogen Petite one that I hardly wear any more but I keep it because it fits so well and I do wear it once in a while. It's the second find below.

It takes a lot of shopping to find the right blazers, so try not to get too discouraged If you find one that works, do the duplication thing! I had that tan one below in a bright purple/blue color also. And....we are all far more analytical/critical of our own bodies than anyone else is, so sometimes you have to throw out the rules and wear what makes you happy.

Just realised that I never responded to these helpful comments; sorry! I found a good blazer but it got lost in my recent move I actually found a tuxedo-looking jacket (longer length & slimmer cut with satin-style lapels), but still not sure if it looks alright on me or not. Maybe I'll upload a photo (eventually, haha)...

Anyway, thanks for all your feedback - guess I just need to keep at the trial & error method!

I have long legs and a short torso, but the size of my hips and thighs give me a slight pear shape. I have found most success with blazers when they are a bit shorter as Diana describes, but I have found exactly two longer, more boyfriend-y styles that work well on me (one is Elizabeth &James, the other DVF). Of course, I tend to wear my jackets open, but I make sure the fit is such that I can close them and the fit still works well.

Another thing I've found can work well is a more asymmetrical hem that dips down in back but is higher in front -- the curve of the hem can be wonderfully flattering on the lower half. I have a black Gibson jacket from two winters ago that does this nicely.

I'm a short-waisted pear with long legs :)

I wear jackets often. I primarily look for something that fits in the shoulders (most important) and isn't uncomfortably tight over the hips, although I tend to wear my jackets unbuttoned.

In general, shorter jackets are better unless they're really long and nicely tailored to fit at the waist and smoothly glide over wider hips...and don't end at your widest point.

I've posted a few examples below.

You might actually have an easier time finding nice jackets since your shoulders aren't particularly narrow. Mine are narrow and sloping, so trying to fit at the shoulders and hips can be a miserable challenge. Good luck!

I am very short-waisted, which makes shopping for jeans which recently tend to be mostly low-rise quite a nightmare... but that's another matter :-)

And I am a pear, with rectangular tendencies, so pretty much have no waist.

I hope some of my past WIWs will give you a few ideas:

Thanks, you guys! I actually redid the waist-ratio measurement method, & found my waist isn't that long after all =\ Hmm this is confusing- maybe I should upload a picture...

I am a very short waisted pear as well. What I look for in a blazer is a somewhat shrunken, fitted shape (boyfriend blazers do NOT work for us), a high stance (this means where the buttons hit on the body), shoulder definition to balance hips, and possibly a slightly peplumy shape for hip room.

Here are a couple that I own and are still available to buy:
Gap Academy blazer:
http://www.gap.com/browse/prod.....ebqhpg+Nqf

Tinley Road Bleecker blazer:
http://piperlime.gap.com/brows.....=202134072

(These happen to be both knit and very comfy, but woven ones work just as well!)

ETA: Here's a photo of me in the Tinley Road one.

I would go with a blazer that's on the shorter side, and with some shoulder definition to balance out your shape.

I think what's on the bottom will matter just as much as the blazer. A fuller trouser will a very fitted blazer seems like a good combination. Or a skirt that's either flared or a non-tapered pencil.

Any chance we could see a picture? You can leave out your face if you like.

I'm a little confused here; pears predominantly have shorter legs & a longer torso, making sense to go for a cropped/ shorter-than-hip-length jacket (to elongate the legs).

However, I tried Angie's waist-measurement method, & found out I'm actually quite short-waisted (can barely fit a hand & 2 fingers between my bustline & the smallest part of my waist). I'm still definitely a pear though, with slight secondary hourglass characteristics (my shoulders are a little broad, but not the same width as my hips).

So, any tips on how should I fit blazers & jackets on my confusing frame? Thanks!
