One button with a low stance is most on trend. Two buttons are also fably trendy. I'd say three buttons or more are very classic. Avoid higher stances and try not to go more than two buttons if you can. But sometimes, three buttons on a blazer are unavoidable in order to achieve great fit.

Exhibit A: Modern Classic Theory Suit Jacket. A few years old. High longevity quotient. Two buttons.
Interesting question, thanks for posting. I found everyone's answers helpful as I had wondered about that too (and which buttons to button).

The *someone* that Donna mentioned had a thread about blazers was me Angie said 1 or 2 buttons and a lowish stance for the collar. I think that means that the rever sweeps down quite low.
http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....azer-style

I say go with what fits you and looks good on you - blazers fit everyone so differently, across the bust, shoulders, etc...

I've never liked one-button blazers because they tend to gap open unattractively over the bust. This may be a fault with the tendency for manufacturers to make enormous arm holes that then throw off the fit everywhere else but I generally look out for more buttons.

But I'm still a bit baffled by the disconnect between what is current and what I like the look of, so my opinion is probably not reliable...
I prefer two buttons for my smaller chest and mommy tummy. As Rae said, one buttons are everywhere and I find that frustrating.

Nicole, I remember seeing that rule on Queer Eye for the Straight Guy! I'd say up to three buttons can be ok. Mostly I see one button in stores right now, so I'm going to say that is the most current.

Ha ha, Nicole, that is a fun trick!!

My only 3 button jacket is my black crepe vintage Hobbs jacket which is intended to look like a 30s jacket. It has an unfashionably high stance. But I like it anyhow for its fun tailoring details...it almost looks like an equestrian jacket with a very nipped waist, a shawl collar, and a pleated skirt.

A one button jacket looks most modern right now. Collarless are very "in" but not everyone can wear them. You look good in one but Angie has warned the likes of me away from same -- I need a collar for my neckline/ lack of bustage.

I am not sure how many buttons you need to be unfashionable but I do know that apparently the rule for a three button jacket is (starting from the top): sometimes, always, never. On which ones to button.

I remember Angie telling someone recently (in the last month) that one or two buttons is current, and that bustier gals may find an easier fit with one button. Actually, I would think that most women would find an easier fit with one only button. Higher stances are dated, and it is pretty hard even to find a three button blazer.

Collarless blazers are less likely to fight with collared shirts, but collarless blazers aren't exactly classic. . .

We are about the same height, but my legs are incredibly short and I am very long-waisted. Shorter jackets flatter me, but having seen your WIWs, you can carry off a much longer jacket. HTH.
I love blazers! Personally the more buttons that are on the blazer I feel the more casual it is. But I am not 100% sure about that people might feel differently. I don't think any type of blazer is dated I have bought plenty from vintage clothing stores and wear them with a dark wash jean all the time. Good questions though it will be interesting to see others opinions.

Can anyone explain blazers and number of buttons to me? I may have asked this before, but am still confused. What's dated? What's most flattering and versatile? One, two, three buttons? I'm looking for a white blazer to try and my mind is boggling at the options out there!
