The outfit itself looks good (loves me some 70s vibes!) but as others have said a little tough to tell on the fit of the pants. My initial feeling is that these have more of a wide leg than bootcut feel which gives them a little more tomboy and a little less crisp classic.

Agree that it’s impossible to assess fit. In the picture, they look very nice though.

I would definitely be wearing pointy toes with bootcuts or else it look 90’s (to me).

I want to remove the blazer so I can see more of the fab leopard shirt!

Cocolion - thank you for the amazing selection of bootcuts. I really love the look of a white bootcut - so chic. I had forgotten that Zara have jeans, so that is a great place to start with.

Cardiff girl - I love disco and the whole Saturday Night Fever look!

Sal - I 100% agree that bootcuts are tricky with heels - you have to decide which height heel to wear them with and then that is it. For this reason skinnies seem to work better for me.

Shevia - the 70's definitely had some great fashion and I loved how people were adventurous in what they wore.

I like this too and think it is flattering - and not dated.

I am enjoying wearing flares again after a few years away from this silhouette - but it is not a trend I want to dip too heavily in because of the heel issue (I need to wear heels with mine) and the rain issue (which you probably don't have). I am wearing mine today and will take a pic for a WIW thread later this week....

I love this styling - and yes do wear the jacket again as it is lovely!!

I think this is great. The pants don't look as dated as you think because they aren't low rise, they look more mid-rise. If you want an updated flare I agree a higher rise that is more fitted on the upper leg would be the thing.

Here are some finds to explain what I mean. I've got pricey and less expensive options from Zara (didn't see much from H&M except for classic bootcuts.) They are all new items at retail. I love both the exaggerated flares and the minimal flare as seen in the second find. The higher rise (at least a higher mid rise) is the common denominator.

There are also some super wide palazzo styles that are fringe trends.

Toban - Yes I think I should try for a better fitting bootcut.

kkards - I will try changing up the footwear - a pointy toed pump would have looked more polished - a great suggestion.

IMO, the fit of the jeans need to be tweaked to make this outfit work better. Bootcuts should be slim on the thigh to the knee, then flare out.

I make this same minor alteration to slim the thigh on almost all my bootcuts. It’s usually a very simple - turn the jeans inside out, slip them on, pin the side seams, take them off and sew on my machine, rejoining the factory seam at about the knee. If you or a friend can’t diy, then the tailor can do it inexpensively.

You’ll be surprised how much better you like the bootcuts when the fit is right!! It will give you a polished intentionality to your blazer+jeans look - in line with your style guidelines - and you’ll save an closer orphan.

The jacket is lovely - you have a really great look!

I like this outfit on you. The looser bootcut works and it’s an excellent silhouette on you. That said, I have a preference for a snugger thigh fit on bootcuts, with a leaner line.

Personally I think you look great. I agree with others on their assessment of the jeans- boot cuts are timeless but the little looseness gives it a little nod to current trend. The jacket is fabulous on you and your bag is a terrific addition to the look.
You certainly have a wonderful touch with fashion- you seem to nail everything.... even when shopping your closet........cue jealousy- lol.

Elizabeth P, I am glad you think this is a timeless style.

Mirjana, I think a true bootcut would be fun to have. It is nice to experiment with a different silhouette.

Brooklyn, I do have lace tops, so that would be fun.

Style Fan, I thought of you with this look because the blazer reminds me of your killer style.

Mainelady, thank you for the feedback. A good blazer can really lift other ordinary pieces. This one is a favourite for me with denim.

I also think this looks great. Because of the looseness, the jeans read a little more as wide legs than bootcuts to me, but that’s still a classic look.
You could also substitute the shirt for something a bit trendier, like a lace top, floral top or graphic tee.
But I love the 70s vibe of this outfit. And what a fantastic blazer! You must wear it more often.

First I can say that I like that style and suits you well. I personally like bootcut jeans, to my mind timeless. If you want some trendier bootcut, more fitted on your upper thighs , you can buy this style works for you great. But it is not necessary as it works as is, up to you. I love this outfit on you.

Bootcut jeans are not something that I think of as being particularly flattering for me, but I loved the bootcuts in Angie's Friday post and thought I would give it a try.

I found this pair (by shopping my closet) - they are likely to be circa 2002... so if you think they are hideous, there is no problem, out they go and it gives me permission to buy a new pair. They are a bit loose and may be more flattering if they were more fitted on my upper thighs. It would be useful to know why these don't work, the lower rise is likely to be an issue, but any other comments or suggestions would be great.

I wore it in a very 70's inspired way - with leopard shirt, brown boots and a favourite brown blazer that I bought and need to wear more often as I love the cut of it (a classic Hugo Boss blazer). Added in the new navy Kate Spade bag to a bunch of oldies - so sorry no finds for these old items.

Comments, suggestions etc most welcome. This is really just an experiment to see if this is a style that I should think about getting on board with - so if you think it is a fail - happy to pass on it and move onto another trend.
