I have this ruched skirt and I wear it with black and white patterned silky loose tops or a blush linen sweater. I might have worn it with my long black vest once, on top, also. And the black gladiator sandals.

The look you are describing with the skirt and cons sounds a bit like how KaryMK was doing her ponte/lace skirt and cons a week or so ago, if you want to look for that.

Probably repeating what has been said but you can absolutely wear the white cons with the black skirt. As a blonde I find I can do white or neutral footwear quite easily and I love how it looks with black. I like the sound of your mint top, will you show us?

I don't have the same skirt but I do have a black tube / knit skirt and I tend to wear it with slightly oversized drapey tops. Often black or grey. Would you wear a sleeveless top and a draped vest?

Found a couple of potential inspiration pics:)

Believe it or not is is a top from a company called Sympli -- they make sort of Eileen Fisher-esque clothes in jersey, a lot in the "arty lady" category. I actually just bequeathed it to my stepdaughter because I thought she would wear it more than I do. But it was really fun with the skirt, for sure.

I also wear my Cons with shorts and jeans, of course. I don't know if I have worn them with any other skirts but it's definitely do-able.

I think my favourite look for these skirts is some kind of loose top. And that tends to work with the Cons, too. Love your idea of mint.

Wow, thanks Suz! You are my style hero on this site - so pulled together. What top are you wearing in #1. I saw this earlier and meant to ask. I looove the shoulder cut-out detail. I have lots of dressier black wedges, sandals etc, but really want to try to work in the wedge cons here.

Totally not wrong. I have this skirt in the black and white stripe (most worn version), the navy (second most worn) and the cobalt. I tend to wear the striped and cobalt more with my Cons than the navy, but that's probably just coincidence and I don't think there's any problem wearing black or navy with the white shoes.

Pastels would work great, as Aida said, or any patterned top that has white or a lighter colour as part of the pattern.

I've worn all kinds of tops with mine. From a peplum (!) to a tucked button down (it only worked because the shirt was actually way too short for me -- a petite size), to slouchy sweaters, to fluid tees, to chambray button down worn untucked, to silky tee shirt style top with tab sleeves (worn out), to an old sleeveless turtleneck (fitted) with denim jacket on top.

Not all of these feature the Cons but many would work with them if I wanted a different vibe.

Ah - like the idea of a pastel and a more fluid top - never thought to go pastel. My default is always graphic bl/wh. No, I hate fitted tops and feel self-conscious in them. Hmm - now to find it...I actually have a mint green (sounds worse than it is) fluid sweater(swing/open back) from Club Monaco that might just be the ticket! Thanks!! Oooh - the more I think about it, the more I like that idea. Thanks Aida!

Your skirt is black, I vote have fun with it I wear white shoes with black bottoms a lot (and I'm not blonde!). No reason to limit yourself to a column of black, though with the white shoes that would look striking. Pastels are also fresh looking paired with black, so that's another option as well. I'd suggest wearing a fluid/boxy/oversized top, not a fitted top, for the most current look. If you really prefer a fitted top, then top with a boxy jacket.

Aida - the eyelet business is so subtle as to be not noticeable. I can adjust the length somewhat, but without fiddling, it falls right over my knee cap - not super long. I guess the question really is - do I go nuts with a striped fitted t, or with a plain black or white? I seem to be second-guessing myself so often these days.....

Suz is the master of VC tubes and con hi-ness's, it might be worth searching her posts. I have the regular hi ness cons, and have worn that combo with an oversized sweater, and a dressy tee with a leather jacket.

How about showing us some pics with your pieces and let us play?

How low does the skirt hit below your knee? That might affect your top decision a bit; if it's quite low then you'll want a more obviously cropped top to offset the midi+hightop effect. You could also mitigate with a less cropped top but with a cropped jacket (like a little denim thing or a short boxy moto). If it's not too low, then you've got more options. Since you have the eyelet version, something with a retro flair or a little southern belle could be fun to go with the theme, or something hard edge/sporty to go against it.

I have these two pieces impatiently knocking at the door of my closet waiting to be let out to play. Given the lightweight fabric and unfinished hem of the skirt, I'm putting it into a funky business casual slot - into which I funnel most of my budget. The Hi Ness wedge Cons - yes they are white (love the idea of them so much I may get the black, but staying true to my vow not to buy anything now until I have all of this figured out) are in the same category. So the question in my mind is - can I wear them together? (black skirt and white wedges) And what is the ideal top ? I can work a fairly funky look and am not afraid of a little edge. In fact, I feel most comfortable in that look . Any suggestions for the ideal top - should it be fitted, flowy, striped, solid? I have several options for a topper - including a vintage Burberry denim cropped jacket complete with plaid cuff and under collar lining (white, red, gold, etc) that I could see working with this. I also have a cropped Ralph Lauren washed denim jacket with white top stitching to consider.

Lots of you have this skirt - tell me how you style it for casual wear! Thanks - appreciate ALL ideas - from any style viewpoint!

Btw - I'd add a "find" for the Hi Ness eyelet if I could fine one:)
