When I do black tights/brown shoes, I try to repeat warm tones somewhere else in the outfit, and not to add too many extraneous colors so it doesn't look like I just threw whatever on. It depends on what is your goal--as in, I need the warmth of these black tights and I want to wear them with as many shoes as possible, vs., I want to create some dark neutral color combos I love myself. So sometimes I'm trying to decide whether I'm aiming to push my practical-versatile envelope, and just want "permission" for that, or play with colors that look delicious to me. I hadn't thought of trying charcoal tights. Angie, I would probably be wearing either a black skater skirt or black pencil skirt, plus a cream top. I was thinking of also possibly wearing the shoes and tights with a dark rust skater skirt. I have very dark brown hair, pretty much the same color as the flats. Generally, my plan was to wear some of my shorter skirts with these new flats—right now, they're the only flats in my wardrobe. I wanted flats for these shorter skirts (heels look streetwalkerish), but I was cheap and got the chocolate flats instead of the black ones because they were on sale. I do genuinely like the dark brown color of the shoes also. But it does break up my leg line. I think I was aiming for the tights and shoes being the same color so as to extend the leg line. Maybe I need to find chocolate tights? Ha ha, I will have tried to save money by buying the dark brown shoes, and I'll end up spending what I saved on a pair of tights to match them. Although many people say that one can wear chocolate or dark brown with black, I still cannot get over the "I got dressed in the dark" look in my head. It just looks like I wasn't paying attention or didn't care.  Cognac, on the other hand, goes beautifully with black. I have seen this look with black tights or pants with cognac boots, shoes and booties on Pinterest.  In fact I just searched it, as I just bought a pair of cognac booties last week and was deciding if I should keep them, and if so how to wear them. I think  if they look tonally similar and the rest of your outfit contains tonal similarities, or if they are very contrasting (cognac and black for example) but the rest of your outfit also contained something else cognac it might look less jarring to you. The look was jarring to me—the flats just by themselves are very, very dark, almost black, but putting them in close proximity to true black highlighted that they were clearly brown. I wanted to try the combo because I want to extend my wearing of the new shoes as far into cold weather as possible. I was going to give up on the idea, but in Angie's blog post today, she said not to worry about wearing brown and black together, to just do it.  Has anyone here worn black tights and dark brown shoes? Do you think that the black-plus-brown combo works better with other clothing items as opposed to black tights and brown shoes? I'm not sure if my eye needs time to adjust or if there is something about the tights-and-shoes combo that is different. Or maybe I'm just reacting to a contrasting color on my feet, which makes my legs look a little stumpy.
