I have a pair of black Kut from the Kloth skinny jeans that I am really liking for smart casual wear. I definitely like the idea of black bootcut jeans on you, Michelle.

Michelle, this is a tough one for me. I've been thinking about it and I don't know what fabric would be best. I have black jeans and I really like them, so I might recommend going that route. The only other option (in my mind) seems to be black dress pants, and I don't think that's what you're after!

I know you want flares and not straight legs but I just noticed some black Cookie Johnson jeans on the Nordies site: http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/cj.....sultback=5

I like black denim, particularly when it's blacky-black and hardly looks like denim. But it does look a bit more casual than what you're describing as stretch twill. On the other hand, some black stretch cotton picks up every speck of lint in the atmosphere and looks dreadful after a couple of hours.

I'm not helping, I know. But if you want to try any of the Talbot's items, feel free to have them sent to me and I'll repackage and send them up to you.

I think black denim would work, depending on the cut. Trouser jeans would look great in black.

I really like a poly blend because they don't wrinkle or bag out during the day. I checked my favorite pants and they're 65 poly, 35 viscose, 5 spandex. They're bombproof but the fabric feels great. I'm not sure I'll ever buy cotton pants again except for jeans.

April: quite right, the BR pants don't come in my size. And Talbot's U.S. rarely carries the same stock as Talbot's Canada, which is just beyond annoying. :)
So the question is, what material should I focus on? Would black denim work, or should I avoid?

Michelle, I'm guessing the Banana Republic black stretch flares in Angie's store don't come in the right size, yes? Have you checked Talbots? They have such a variety of sizing, and right now they have lots of bootcuts and flares. Here are a couple of options in women's sizing.

Black bootcut jeans:
http://www.talbots.com/online/.....e=cat70012

Black "bi-stretch" flares (on sale!)
http://www.talbots.com/online/.....e=cat70012

Black bi-stretch bootcuts
http://www.talbots.com/online/.....e=cat70012

My most pressing wardrobe gap right now -- and the only one I can afford to close for quite some time -- is a pair of black pants in an of-the-moment silhouette. My strong preference for this would be for a great pair of boot cuts. Why black? Because I have blue jeans already, and black would go fabulously well with the majority of my wardrobe.I'm NOT after classic dress pants, you understand, just a pair of black boot cuts or flares that will work well in smart casual settings or that can be dressed up as needed (my office lends itself to both). What is the best fabrication to pursue for these pants? Would black denim get the job done, or does that send out the wrong vibe? Black stretch twill would be ideal, but such fabric is very hard to find in my size.

I welcome any and all thoughts!
