We take the opposite approach though - OMG we usually can't wait to share &amp; tell so the other one can go try! It's like having a personal shopper! We have on occassion went to go out for the evening &amp; one of us has had to change. We just laugh about it &amp; one of us will change. I love her to death &amp; wouldn't change a thing! I used to be very possessive when I was in high school because I was constantly trying to find new ways to punk things up and I always used to think these two specific girls were copying me, since my ideas were oh so unique. In retrospect, I was being silly. If so, then I think you could say something like "don't you think we might look silly if we are wearing the same exact shoes to the event?" </p> <p>But if she just wants to buy a cute pair of special occasion shoes, and you are only planning on wearing them for special occasions as well, I don't see the problem. If it isn't for a specific event, but you do go to a lot of the same events, you could say something, lightly, like "the next time we're going to the same party, let's make sure we're not both wearing the shoes!" No offense to anyone who would be upset (in fact, I'd love to hear about why you feel this way), but it's just not something that would bother me. I think that unless you've designed and made something yourself you're never going to be the *only* person with that item, so why worry about it?</p> <p>I might feel this way because, when I used to live with my best friend in uni, we shared all our clothes (it was like having two closets!) and had loads of duplicates, too. I can think of at least five things off the top of my head that we both bought because we liked them so much- including jeans, shoes, a coat and several sweaters/cardis. And you know know what? We just coordinate so that we don't wear the same shoes when we go out together.
