I agree with Star’s latest comment. We shouldn’t beat ourselves up if we gain weight when our hormones go crazy for a while, but I don’t think that means we should just lie down and accept that we will forever be a size/shape that we don’t like.

JenniNZ, congrats on the weight loss! I thought you were looking thinner in some of your posts, didn’t know if that was just flattering clothes. Well done! I’m sure it is inspiring to your patients to see that it is possible to take off the weight post-menopause.

Tangent: I wonder if there’s any connection between how we go through menopause and how we went through menarche. Before putting on curves, some girls grow up and some grow out. I’m one who got pudgy before curves were carved out. Then I put on weight in menopause, (and eventually took that off too). My sister stayed slim as a teen and through menopause too. Just an idle wonder, no clue if it’s connected to anything.

Agree with the consensus with the first two dresses. I tend to keep clothes that fit but not the way I like (a bit too tight or loose), but keep things that are really out of the question out. (If it is a special vintage piece at least out of my sight.) Just a couple of pounds makes a big difference in fit for me.

LAR101 - thank you. yes I really like the first one as it fits so well. Its also a brand that I think is pretty good quality. I always want to get my wardrobe really minimised so maybe keeping only that one is an option.
Slim cat, Joy and Preppy pear- you are probably right about the second one being too big up top and needing alterations. It might be worth doing as I really like the hang of the bottom part.
Thank you Mirjana.
Thank you Stagiaire fash, star and Jenni NZ for your thoughts on keeping clothes for weight gain. My biggest weight gain was with pregnancy and other smaller gains were when I didn't exercise and got too caught up in my work, namely neglecting myself, so I should just take care of myself. Everyone keeps saying, "you're skinny now...wait until you go through menopause" which I'm actually going through now I think. Anyway I am just going to stick to a small wardrobe that fits and lets see what menopause brings.
Thank you CarolS
Yes Jonesy. I am planning to wear it either Boho with flat leather sandals and a cardigan in summer which i have or with tough boots and denim jacket in spring.

I like the first two a lot, and they seem distinct from each other, so you could get wear out of both! I agree with layering the second one--how about pairing with some rugged boots and a denim jacket for fall? The third one does look big through the shoulders and arm holes.

I haven’t been keeping bigger stuff really. My weight is down by 9 kg now but hardly anything is too big? Some shorts were, that were a size 16 NZ- bought slightly too large at my highest weight, on sale, and were a placeholder. I still wore them 30 times. They have now been donated. But nearly all my size 14 things fit even although I am more of a 12 now. I wonder if it’s because most of my waists are elasticated, and many of my dresses are a fluid fit not a tailored fit. And since I keep some items for years some were a bit tight for a while but now fit again. I certainly hope not to regain but understand that many people do.
I would only keep really fab stuff just in case if I were you. And I don’t think dress 3 qualifies.

I love dress #1, and #2 will be fab with a denim jacket and boots or brogues and will definitely make it feel less dressed up.

With regard to keeping clothes that are too big, for me it would be how much 'too big' are they? I have clothes in my wardrobe in 3 sizes, because I do fluctuate around 4 kgs (2 up and 2 down from my ideal weight, and each 2kgs means a different size). So jeans that were a bit too loose last year and I nearly purged fit me right this year, which made me realise not to go crazy with the purging. However if they were any bigger I would not keep them as I am not planning on growing back in to them. I am now at the top of my range and my middle sized jeans are snug so it motivates me to get my shape back to where I want it.

The question of whether to keep big clothes in case of future weight regain, and then what size and how many items, are current concerns for me.

When I first lost weight, I set a modest weight/size goal. After I’d been at it for a while, I realized I could go back down to what I consider my “original grown-up shape”, and I did. Right now I’m several kilos lower than that ultimate goal, but my size is over halfway between it and the intermediate goal. I’m “skinny fat” and need to get to work.

I think I’m going to keep things up to that initial goal as is. Anything bigger than that will be either altered or sold.

That’s what I’m currently thinking anyway. I hope others weigh in on your question

The first dress is so very chic! The 2nd one looks like it might need a little tailoring up top? But I really like it with the belt, and like the idea of dressing it down. Agree with others that the 3rd one is too big.

#2. Good for an event. Maybe keep for an occasion but it seems too big.
#3. Pass it on. not a good fit and get something in a light neutral or your best color to replace it.

Thank you Sally. I don’t have white sneakers but think I need to get some as you are right. I want to find some boho sandals for the 2nd dress. I thought I might try an Audrey Hepburn inspired outfit for the first.

I got out of my pyjamas and yoga pants to put clothes on so sorry if I have bombarded the site with photos. My winter theme was basic black, and I suppose my spring will be the same with the added theme of stripes and t-shirt dresses. I will still wear jeans These are 3 black dresses I have for warmer weather along with my t-shirt dresses. I think one of them looks too big for me so I think I might donate it. Does anyone keep clothes in case they put on weight again?
pic 1 and 2 - a dress I thrifted. Its cue a brand I really like.
pic 3 - a dress I have had for ages but never wore. It seems too dressed up but I think I will dress it down with flats and denim or utility jacket. I bought this when I was bigger but I think with the belt it works.
pic 4- 5 dress I have had in my wardrobe - I am thinking of letting this go. Any ideas and suggestions welcome.
