Yes,I think so.
For example:black stockings will make your legs look more slender。I usually wear black pantyhose or black legging.

I find that fit is most importantly for looking slim and defining your shape.

Darks hide my lumps and bumps, but I've also found patterns are very successful at this as well.

Depending on the item, black can sometimes make a person look better because it better hides lumps and bumps, as well as visually recedes. Sometimes a top that I cannot wear in a lighter colour I can wear in black because the crepe paper look of the skin on my tummy is highlighted by a lighter hue. But generally speaking, darker colours are more slimming, but columns of colour are slimming, too, regardless of whether they are white, pastel, bright or black. And, of course, fit is paramount with any garment.

Sure, if you stand in front of a black background. ;)

Seriously, I think figure flattery is more complicated than just wearing a particular color. Fit, structure, fabric, design, drape, proportion--I could keep going, but you get the drift--are all important factors if you want to look slimmer.

In general, from what I have read and experienced, it is very dark colors in general that make you look slimmer. So it doesn't have to be black. It could be a navy, a charcoal, a very dark purple, etc. Like Alexandra said, there are some people who aren't flattered by black.

If black is a color that makes you look your best, then yes, it can be slimming. If black is not one of your best colors, it's just going to look like a heavy block of black, calling attention to itself. There are other dark neutrals that work better for people who aren't flattered by black.

To some extent this is true, because dark colors recede, while bright, light colors can make you look larger. But in the end fit and structure is more important. An all black outfit may also make you look tired or older, which are not desirable effects to most:)

Agreeing with Deborah. Color can affect whether we look slim or not but an ill-fitting black outfit will never look as slimming as a perfectly fitted white outfit.

For me the most important is the fit and the structure. Angie has recently made a serie of amazing post on how to dress each body type

I think this might be a question for Angie:).

I think it can, but I don't think it's an absolute. Things like cut and fit can also impact how slim or otherwise we might look in our clothes.
