abc, have you tried the "regular" C/D width? I could never wear narrow Birks, but the regulars are great; indeed, many of the complaints on reviews indicate they are too wide (the reason, I guess, why Nordies might have only carried them in narrow). I guess no shoe brand works for everyone, although if you like the look you might be able to find look-a-likes that fit better.

You just reminded me why birks never work for me. I have a med to wide foot. I forgot all about how they run narrow.

Thank you. That's what I had hoped, but the description says it is "Narrow to medium width" and that it is the A/B width. : ( I wish I had more delicate feet, but the C/D width is the one I need.

I was fortunate to find them on Happy Feet, but they have emailed me saying they have to obtain them from the manufacturer, which will take an additional 7 days - so it may take two business weeks or more before I receive them. That stinks, but I guess I am just glad I found them at all! I will be counting the days!

Nordies may translate "regular" as "B", since "B" is standard width for most shoe companies. You could IM customer service to be certain.

Oh, I didn't know they changed the sizing! But I checked the Birkenstock website and it looks like you explained it - just the two widths now with the narrow covering A-B and the regular covering C-D. I suppose that makes it easier, although with all the pairs of Birkies I have I never ordered anything special or specified a width. I just assumed they were all wider than average because that just how Birkies ran!

But I ordered the black and white patent ones in a 39 regular (I often take a size 9, but in Birks I take a half size smaller than in a regular shoe), and I just received the Yara, which have ankle straps. When I receive the new ones I will post a picture post with both pairs. I am kind of excited that comfortable-for-me footwear is actually considered "trendy" this season!

Just purchased new Birkenstocks at our local comfy shoe boutique. These are pair 5? Or 6? I have always worn a 41 narrow but Birkenstock has changed the footbed this year. The old footbed came in three widths, Narrow, Regular and a Wide. Now they come in two widths Narrow/Medium and Medium/Wide. My new Birkenstocks are 40 Narrow/Medium. They feel great and I can barely tell the difference. Best to try on the new sizing to see what fits. Hope that helps.

Thanks! I normally love regular Birkenstocks, which almost all come in the regular width, but for this summer I am being a lemming for the "trendy" kind. So although I have Arizonas, I specifically want the black patent style with the black and white soles on them, and that particular style seems really rare in a regular width. In most old-style Birks, regular is the width that is always offered, while narrow is harder to find. With the styles in department stores now, narrow seems to be the default width instead, and I'd imagine that has to do with their customer base (or perceived customer base).

I found these on Amazon.
http://www.amazon.com/Birkenst.....B00171AQ6O

You are right, a lot of stores don't carry the 'R' width which fits similar to a Wide or a Men's Regular. Most women's styles are made only in the narrow aka Standard width.

Okay, I think I have answered my own question. Happy Feet has them in a R (regular) size, as well as N (narrow). So I went ahead and ordered them. I wonder if these are just the Birkenstocks of the season, so everyone else is out of regular width? Even so, that seems unlikely, as I cannot imagine everyone jumping on this bandwagon for Birks. Maybe major retailers didn't carry them in R widths because they thought they wouldn't sell? Regardless, I am just speculating, and it doesn't matter because I FOUND THEM!

I am almost as excited about these as I am about the new shoes I posted yesterday. They're not nearly as pretty, but they will be far more comfortable!

Well, I suppose this isn't just about Nordies, but I'd prefer to order from them if possible. So despite owning scores of Birkenstock sandals, I've been sucked in by the black patent Arizonas with the white in the sole:
http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/bi.....720280?ori

I would order these in a heartbeat except they are offered in a "B" width, which is narrow for Birkenstock. I realize that for mass appeal, the narrows probably fit more people than the standards, but are they offered in the standard "D" width"? Were they ever offered in standard width? Everywhere I can find them (Amazon, PlanetShoes, Nordies, etc.) they only have narrows. So were they only made in narrow? Anyone know?
