It makes me sad to hear how badly you feel about your body. I think that the media has a lot to answer for here. We are bombarded with images of airbrushed, photoshopped leggy girls who aren't real. When are the real women going to be accepted? We all have body parts which we dislike, and other people's cruelty makes matters worse. It seems that this is just the right place for women who celebrate being real normal women, not androgynous stick people. My heart goes out to you xxx Sent with love from Kirstie xx

as others have mentioned this is a forum of support and kindness. It is also a place where real advice is given and when someone says that something isn't working they give detailed specifics of why and solutions. You will get honest gentle guidance towards defining your style and finding looks that support your body type. There is a saying around here that we use called, "having a poison eye" for something which means that it is just something that we don't like ourselves in general so take that into consideration when you read our comments.

*Blush* Oh thank you. ^///^.
No, no Greek. I have French, Polish and (Black foot I think I was told?) Native American. My gram tells me that waay back in our family somewhere we have Japanese, but I'm not really so sure about that. But thank you, I think Greek women are sooo pretty!!!!!!
Thank you, Sveta, I never really tried it that way. That's a good way of doing it and I will try.

This is really funny. By your description of yourself I expected to see something horrible but you are a gorgeous young woman, BEQ. It just shows how narrow focused we on what we perceive as our flaws and don't see the whole pictures - just the parts we don't like.
The first thing to do is to stop hating your body. This is a dead end, believe me. Big part of the beauty is a confidence and hating your own body is a very opposite feeling.
And really it is not that difficult. Don't hate your broad shoulders - love them because they give you presence and really make clothes hang better on you.
Don't hate your 'thick muscular thighs' - think of them as shapely.
I know it is not easy but you just need to practice every day and it will become much easier!

Oh my....Thank you all so much! I did look over at the body type posts, and figured at least ball park where I stand there. It was actually a couple of Angie's postings and a few others that drew me here. The knowledge and outright support of the people, so unlike other fashion sites I joined. There was this one, Chictopia. But no matter how awesome some of the (few) other curvaceous models were (this was while I still had nerve and actually posted them). None of them made the homepage or even got voted to the top 100. It was always the same body type wearing the trend (the transparent pastel-y collared shirt with the breast pockets). I stopped going on after a while but I'll like it. Again keep in mind I haven't updated in about a year. But the link at the bottom is me.

I saw a lot of questions about the clothing I liked. It's a little bit of boho, a little preppy at times. But mostly a mix of diesel punk and boho with a touch of preppy and warrior (The DP and the warrior is mostly in the details) I love vests, studs, militaristic detailing, flowy skirts, big belts, wedges and gladiator style flats. I love jewel toned tops and can't seem to resist the combination of navy and white. I'm obsessed with finding a pair of blood red pants that fit right. Not too bright, but something other than black or brown that isn't my blue skirt. I also like edgy gold jewelry alongside classic pieces.

I work at Walmart five-six days a week (hence my mild aversion to my brown pants......>XD) but when I got out with my honey or his parents, as we're living with them because he's inheriting the house and we want to put the money toward the house rather than an apartment. But when I go out with them before/after work or on my days off I try to go all out 'nista where I can within reason. My major goal is to be a teacher, but my reach for the stars dream is to be an author.

Oh and I should probably tack in here I am a shoe fanatic.

http://chictopia.com/Earthchild404
Oh I LOVE what Marley has called you , Beautiful Broad Earth Queen ! Thus you will be called or Beauty for short ! Body acceptance is so hard. It is even harder when kids have been so mean. But remember, just because they are mean does NOT mean that they are accurate. Keep telling yourself that, please, repeat it over and over and over.

You still look one better than me, btw, the way I look right now...I could pass for a pregnant man in drag !! And I am not pregnant. I kid you not sweetie.

And just to throw it out there, Heidi Klum and Cindy Crawford were mercilessly called names in high school. : )

Hi Beq! Welcome! This is a super fun place. I think you will have fun here.

It's interesting... how sometimes it's easier to see what isn't as opposed to what is. Angie and everyone here at YLF are very practiced, tho, at seeing and celebrating what is with fashion. Yes a lot of fun.

So what kind of styles attract you?
I just want to say... it is very possible to shed large amounts of body self-hatred. Since I've been hanging out here, I feel better about myself than I ever have, and it's not because I'm at what I've always thought of as my ideal weight. The culture here challenges us to be more positive about our bodies, and after a while the new attitude starts to stick. I am excited for you because I know this can happen for you.

BroadEarthQueen - huge HUGS to you! You have taken an incredible step to finding your confidence and style by coming here and bravely posting about your feelings. YLF is an incredibly welcoming environment full of people from all walks of life and all shapes and sizes. There is no judgement here - only acceptance and heaps of help from both Angie and the YLF membership as a whole.

I would pop on over to Angie's posts regarding how to dress different body types and start there. Also you might want to read posts and check out WIW (What I Wore) threads from others with similar body types and styles you like. These are always great inspiration.

Welcome to you! I am so sorry about how you feel, and about what you have been through. What courage to have opened up about your insecurities. I think you will get a lot of positive outcome from starting a style journey here. This is a very supportive forum, with some warmhearted, well intentioned members who want to help, not judge. Because it's true, we all have insecurities as well. You took an important step. When you feel good in your clothes, it is easier to see where we are at in terms of progress with the body. I hope to hear from you again soon!

Welcome BroadEarthQueen! You are in the right place:) We celebrate what we are, rather than what we are not. It's frequently mentioned here that style is not a number nor is it exclusive to a particular body type. We are here for you and don't forget this journey can be loads of fun:)
