Great tutorials have already been given about the semi-tuck. As for the shoes, of the first 3 pics I prefer 1 and 3. Of the Flikr pics I prefer the second picture.

I like the last two shoe options best (the flickr booties and black cage sandals).

For the outfit, I think either the pants or the top need to be bigger/looser. A loose and drapey top would create more of a curve in the front that would drape down over the sides of the hips. Or a fashionably baggy pair of pants with tapered legs I also love, because it gives the illusion that you are just so slim your pants are falling off. ;)

Tried to give photo illustrations... not sure I am making sense this am (went to the store and forgot to buy what I went out for... one of those days!)

I like the pants with the stripe shirt. I agree on the wider belt if you want to do the tuck. Like the others I tuck in the center behind the belt but found it easy to achieve with the wider one. I like all the shoes but my faves for this outfit are 1.

Ceit and Kelly have given excellent descriptions of the semi tuck. I have a fairly wide mid section to deal with and using the semi tuck has been a real style eye opener for me. Like Ceit, I do up my pants first with top undone and then just grab the centre of the top and tuck in the pants just above the belt buckle. It results in no more than two inches of the top being tucked. Then I just sort of "fluff" the rest of the top so it spills over the belt. This leaves only your belt buckle showing and a hint of waist with the rest of the mid section being hidden. Love it! Definitely don't tuck all the way to the sides. Play with it a bit - once you've got it figured out, you will love it too.

The striped top works really well with your khakis and think any of your footwear options will work.

Thanks, ladies. I tried my only wide belt only to discover that I have outgrown it.

I like the shoes in 1 and 3. I typically semi-tuck just in the center and let the rest kind of blouson out (is that even a word?) I think a wider belt would also make this look more modern. Love the breton style top with the khakis--you look like a totally hip WOTG!

Ugh! These pants are horribly unflattering to my expanded middle.

I semi-tuck by belting my pants with my shirt untucked. Then I pull out my waistband and tuck in just the end of the middle of my shirt directly behind the belt buckle. Then I kind of flop it over along the sides, so the shape I end up with is an upside down U shape, centred on the buckle.

I like all your shoe choices with the khakis!

I'm wearing my oversized khakis while on grandma duty today. I haven't gotten the hang of the tuck thing. Do I tuck just the center or all the way to the side seams?
As for shoes, I don't wear them at home but wonder which look best for a grocery run? #1 or #2 are the ones I would slip on ony way out the door but I tried on several others to see if something else might be more fashionable. The booties aren't something I would normally do (I've only worn them with long pants or tights so no leg showing) but I have seen a few forum members do the booties with cropped pants or shorts so I thought I would give it a try. I'm guessing they would be better with dark jeans instead of the khakis?
