StyleFan, sorry they didn't work for you, they'd fit perfectly into your closet.

thanks Bridgie. Sounds like we are in a similar position. I do find it's much easier to get rid of things that aren't sparking me anymore, now that I have a closet bursting with things that do! I can still improve on this a ton though. Being super picky about what comes in is a good step in the right direction.

The olive pants sound lovely. They didn't work for me (I can't remember why now) but I love the colour. I think olive is going to be big this fall. Olive and black is such a great combination.

Elizabeth, Yes, I am proud of you. I believe your wardrobe is in better shape than you realize. Your hard work and discipline have paid off! I have purge problem but as my wardrobe is getting in better shape, once in a while something old, and past its prime jumps out at me that it is time to go. Also, I have stopped buying random items just because I like them and that is a big help.

Congratulations on your achievements and a great wardrobe. :)

Thanks Suz. I wish I felt that way... Truth is I have too much, and a major purge problem, as I do like pretty much everything I have now. Anyway, not buying stuff I randomly like is a first step to getting the numbers under control.

And yes, BC, so true! My big peeve is when things are called white, but are most definitely OFF white. Return those suckers without even trying on, such a waste of time and (shipping) money for the store.

I'm most definitely proud of you. Not only did you return things you didn't need; you also are able to articulate exactly why those items wouldn't work for you. I sympathize with you on the navy, too. I hate it when a piece of clothing is advertised as navy, looks navy on my computer screen, and then ends up being some other shade of blue that doesn't work with anything. It's royally frustrating.

I am proud of you too, it can be hard to resist the temptation of NAS. You have a beautiful wardrobe, so there is no need to settle for anything that is less than perfect. I love that you have added olive pants into your wardrobe. Olive is a great neutral, and will give you lots of new looks, it will be fun to see these in action.

Thanks Firecracker. I like the idea of being PPP over my NAS order... I don't always fall into that category :). I wouldn't call these pants forest green, I'd call them a dark olive. But regardless of what one chooses to call it, it does NOT fall into my colour palette... but that's okay, as I do really like the colour with navy, black and white, and I have plenty of tops in those colours to wear with them. It'll be a fun diversion for me, and I don't anticipate the fact they are technically "wrong" for me to be an issue whatsoever. I feel rebellious :)

Thanks Deborah, Smittie, and Isabel. Ha, Isabel, I hope it's a while before I post pics, as that means summer has moved on.

And even more interesting that your reasons for returning were different with each item. Too close to an already owned item, the shade of the color not quite right, that one was kind of subtle, and the wrong fit. I like your disciplined spirit!

Hoping you will soon post pictures with the olive pants!

Congratulations, Elizabeth, Nice job of being patient, picky, practical (PPP)!
I only now realized that those cropped kick flares are "navy peacoat," a shade that does work with a lot of my clothes. It's a perennial color offering from those Nordstrom brands, so I have accumulated a bit of it over the years. I just bought a second pair of chinos in that shade this past spring, or I would have been very tempted to get the navy cropped flares.
But back to you! I like the Dre jeans a lot, and I would call that color forest green rather than olive. Does that change how you look at the color? My burgundy Dres are a little tight on my calf, and I still really like them a lot. I felt this year's version was a little tighter, but I think it might have just been faulty memory on my part, too. I think you'll enjoy having them! They are so comfy and very hip looking to me.

You did great. Your fall wardrobe probably feels refreshed with the olive. The olive do loosen some on wearing. Someone told me to keep the smaller of the ones I ordered and I think that I will be glad that I did.

And, bringing up the rear.....
Me!

I'm very proud of myself this year.

For the last 2-3 years, since I discovered NAS, I've always gone into that time period with no intentions of buying, and have come out with several (or several severals) items. When NAS hits, I have NO interest in fall clothes, as we are barely starting to wear full summer ones. But inevitably I get sucked in by the posts here, seeing things on others, seeing the recommendations, etc. I've ended up with some of my favourite pieces this way, so no regrets.

Same thing this year. except this year, I wasn't even get excited about what I was seeing... not that there weren't nice things being shown, I just found whenever something caught my eye, I was always able to find something I already had that filled the same use. Plus I was away for the last two weeks of July, so missed a lot of the excitement.

I did end up ordering 4 pairs of pants, all from Canadian stores. Last year I got the black Halogen flares in a size too big, and have often kicked myself for that (I had the smaller pair initially, but chose the larger). So this year I reordered them in the size smaller, along with some navy ones. I also thought I'd try the Paige jeans, and the olive Dre's that were popping up frequently, and seemed to fit people who I can often wear the same things as.

Well:
The smaller black Halogen flares weren't different enough in size to own both. Or to spend money on. Back they went.
The navy Halogen flares weren't quite the right navy, to go with any of the tops I'd envisioned them with. This was a hard one, as I have serious navy goggles, but back they went.
The Paige jeans were awful on me - totally sausage encasing. I don't think ordering a size larger would have helped, as they were way to tight on the calf, and this doesn't usually change much. Back they went.
The olive Dre's are awesome! They are staying! What lovely fabric. Olive is not one of my colours, however I do like it, and figured they'll go with my multitude of navy, black and white tops. They are a tad snugger in the calf than is ideal, but still fine. I hope. I'm also happy to wear them tucked into boots. It's a lot for me to spend on jeans, but given I didn't get anything else, I feel totally justified.

So there we are. My story. Are you proud of me too? :)
