So many good ideas here.
I have quite a few small scarves that I have sorted by color and store folded in clear shoe boxes on a shelf in the closet. I have a box each for black/white, blues/greens, reds, brown/yellow/orange. Large or bulky scarves to use with coats are hung in the coat closet or in a dresser drawer. I have too many scarves but use them all the time.

I have a tiny closet that is also not very tall either (not tall enough to have a double rod), therefore, quite limited space. Here's what I do:

Jeans - I fold mine up and they live in my dresser drawer. If I hung them, they'd take too much room up in the closet. But I do hang my dress slacks - not folded - I clip them and hang them upside down, by the bottom, not the top.

Washing jeans - empty pockets of kleenex (have been known to forget and regret); turn inside out; zip them!; wash with other jeans in cold water, gentle cycle; remove and hang to dry. (Which reminds me, I need to wash some jeans).

Cardigans - I was taught to never, ever hang them because they'd lose their shape. I fold them (not with tissue). I admit I am lousy at keeping them nicely folded though and inevitably have to go in there every few weeks and refold. They reside in two wire-mesh three-drawer carts with wheels in my closet. Same cart you see sold for kitchens to hold onions and other stuff. It works nicely because the wire mesh keeps air circulating, the drawers are just the right width, and the wheels mean I can roll it in and out of my closet as needed.

Boots- I use the expanders if they came with the boots, but I have been meaning to ask if anyone has a favorite brand I could order online for the boots that didn't come with any. Those that aren't used as frequently are kept in their original box on the shelf.

Shoes -not enough room for boxes; those in rotation hang in two over-the-door cloth shoe caddy (total of 24 shoes). Those not in rotation are in a laundry basket at bottom of closet (the good ones are in dust cloths). Those that I just remembered I have and that should probably go into the donate box because I have totally forgotten they were even there..........ugh.... are in another box under the guest bed.... UGH!!!! I have a lot of shoes. :-(

Scarves - share the dresser drawer with my jeans. They are rolled. They frequently become unrolled in my haste. I tried hanging them up, but it took up way too much precious room in the closet.

Belts - I don't own that many. They are coiled up and in a dresser drawer along with my bathing suits.

Jewelry (all)- I have a big jewelry box I got a few years ago from QVC. It sits on my dresser.

I love my hangers! They are the kind that aren't supposed to take up space, and they are soft and non-slip. They are the BEST. I highly recommend investing in decent hangers. It's worth every penny. (But I only use them for dresses, tops and jackets, not for pants and skirts.)

I don't know that mine is anything out of the ordinary. But, here's what I do.

Belts - circled up & placed in a cloth lined wicker baskets on one of my shelves in the closet. If I had a bigger closet, I would like to have them out where I could see them more.

Jewelry - Remember those old flip top jewelry boxes like your mom or gma used to have? Mele I think is one of the brands. They are vintage I bought on e-bay or thrifted quite some time ago. One for pendants, leathers, etc. One for necklaces. One for earrings. One for long necklaces. Then, one of those tackle/tool box type things that you get at Menard's/Lowes that I keep rings & bracelets in. Not pretty but highly functional. That's what I'm doing currently. I'm always looking for new ideas though. I found my armoire didn't do the trick for me. Too many little drawers.

I bought my daughter the funnest thing for her jewelry though. I got it on QVC (a friend had one so I looked it up on-line) here it is... http://www.qvc.com/qic/qvcapp......et-by-Lori it's so fun for her cause she can see every stinkin' piece of jewelry she owns the minute she opens it & then voila, close the door & there's the mirror.

Scarves - I did a fun thing yesterday. We have the wire shelving in our closet. So, I took a pant hanger. Had DH cut all but about an inch on each side off the wire - then curled it & it hangs over the wire shelf in the back of my closet for scarves. I'm trying it right now...

I was reading through some really old posts on Angie's blog & picked up a folding clothes dryer thingy yesterday & am drying some stuff on their now trying to avoid the dryer as much as possible. Jeans I typically fold & put in a dresser drawer. Pants I hang. Most sweaters I fold. About everything else is hung up.

Shoes are on a slanted wire shoe rack so I can see all I'm wearing that season at one time. I keep them in their original boxes in my closet & rotate to the top shelf when out of season.

I would love to see what others do, I'm always looking for ideas for closet organization! My closet re-do is probably on-hold now until we see how the economy shakes out this year (boo-hoo)!

Hi All,

I have been pondering some questions lately on the best way to look after your clothes. For instance, is it better to fold your jeans up or to hang them up? If hanging, do you fold them over the rail of the hanger?

When washing jeans, I turn mine inside out (especially if they are dark), are there any 'rules' I should be following?

What about jumpers / cardigans? folding with tissue paper in them or hanging on padded coat hangers?

Boots - I use the boot expanders to keep them straight and if I don't have them, I use newspaper that I scrunch up and put inside to keep them straight. Is this the best way to keep them straight / and looking good?

Shoes - I keep most of mine in clear boxes so I can see them

Scarves and Belts - I hang up on trouser hangers (with the ends open

Jewelry

Necklaces - I use a tie rack (one that rotates and hang my necklaces (and I have A LOT of them) on there.

Bracelets - I use an old skirt hanger (with the end clips) to slide them onto and the end clips keep them from coming off.

Earrings - I use a display box with 2 layers and separators and keep them together in 'colours'.

Anyone else got any good / cleaver ideas to keep your Clothes, Shoes and Jewelry in good condition?

Angie maybe you can let us know what you do?
