The website orcanetwork.org will tell you where whales have currently been sighted. It might help you decide where to concentrate your efforts.
In my experience, whales are rarely seen from WA State ferries. It may be completely different in BC waters....

Take a ferry and get on the top level for a great view of the orcas. Our best was the ferry from Victoria to Vancouver.

Thanks!
I guess it looks like Clipper leaves from Seattle directly and others you may drive to catch.
Adding to my trip- planning file!

We went out of Friday Harbor in June several years ago. The first day - nothing. The second day - all three pods. So it can vary..

I went with Mystic Sea out of Anacortes with my singles activity group. Saw lots of orcas. Check their schedule as it's seasonal. Bring your own food and drink as on board offerings are paltry & expensive.

I know people who've done the Clipper trip out of Seattle and weren't happy.

ETA, pics from my trip

In case I would get to take a trip to Seattle or environs in the future, I'd enjoy one or more or the ship or ferry excursions for scenery- and wildlife-watching.
For orca watching, what do the PNWers recommend for a San Juan Island day trip--does one book the Clipper itself or deal with San Juan
Safari or some other approach ?
