I have had a love-hate relationship with shorts most of my life. Having shorter, muscular legs the fit is often tricky and my pale skin makes me feel subconscious. Living in a hot desert climate and having a casual lifestyle make shorts practical for much of the year. This year, my white denim shorts from Old Navy are one of my favorite pieces. I discovered that a lighter colored short blends in with my skin tone and gives me a longer leg line anddoesn't call as much attention to my paleness.
My other favorite piece right now is a textured short sleeve cocoon sweater in an off white from Target that I am wearing constantly. It's great for the chill in the morning or evening and also AC blasts. I already posted this pic elsewhere, but both pieces can be seen in this outfit.

Unfortunately we don't get much spring where I live so can't comment for that season :(

My best for summer has also been my 'taking a stand with my summer body' - Gap cotton shorts. A friend wears Old Navy cotton shorts every summer but I could never make them work on me. I also tried JCrew cotton Bermudas, which I like, but aren't cool and loose like I need to beat the heat. The Gap shorts are a shorter inseam than the Bermudas, rolling once makes them a flattering length and a little narrower (a double roll always looks to bulky to me on my heavier thighs). Now I just need to find the perfect tank/tee to go with them!

I'm also loving all of my linen tops this summer and a new straw hat.

This has been my best summer ever as far as finding things I love. Usually in the summer I just look for things I can tolerate, but this time I am actually happy with my clothes. These three things have been my standouts...the tops I bought in 3 colors each and don't regret it at all.

Normally I hunt for a bunch of new t-shirts in early Spring, but this year I felt fed up with the available quality--I was tired of t-shirts that were ruined by runs and holes after a couple of washes. So I've gone back to loose blouses in light, airy cottons, and I love them! Except for one Madewell top in deep poppy red, most are white, sheer, and very feminine. With antique brooches at the throat, paired with cropped or rolled jeans or long shorts, these blouses have made me feel comfortable, cool and pretty.

Love your outfit pics, Alexandra.

It's been a weird summer for me. My best buys have been the Marc Jacobs sweatshirt, some hats, and a light weight steampunk-y overcoat. It's been hot cold hot cold but always burning sunny. And I have my foot issues. I've been living in, besides these things: black dresses, not new/sometimes ancient crops, leggings and aprons (of course), drapey tissue tees, my full red/white striped fake scuba skirt, white sneakers and croc t-strap clogs. I've broken up with tunics and would like to wear some of my skirts, if only weather would cooperate.

This was the first SS I planned, shopped in advance, and love my closet. Oh, thanks YLF!

Bought little --just smarter about fabric and palette. I pushed myself to add white straights and flares (still not lovin' it, still feel like my mom). Pushed the envelope to find a trouser outfit for dressy stuff including an upcoming outdoor wedding. Best buys: thrifted, natural linen Katherine Hepburn wide leg trousers and a cream/black linen tattersall shell.

Always trying,
Did you see the Hitch denim skirt, one of Angie's Top Pics, at the NAS? It's FABULOUS. Below the knee length, straight-to-pencil tapered. I'm curvy (pear or hourglass bottom) and it is extraordinarily flattering! Very affordable, too.

Earlier this year, we moved to a much warmer climate and my wardrobe was totally unprepared for the heat. I sewed up a few pieces and quickly disovered the awesomeness that is a stretch denim skirt and a drapey rayon top. I made a bunch of both and have been living in them every day. A few examples are below. (i haven't needed the cardigan except indoors.)

I have a couple of work uniforms for summer: sleeveless or short sleeved dress with a LOFT cropped cardigan for the office a/c; skirt and long sleeved blouse with a tank underneath so I can take the blouse off for the afternoon walk to the train and ride home from the train station in the hot car; casual sleeveless dress or shorts and drapey tee for weekends. Mostly I'm wearing things from past summers, but the LOFT cardigans are new and I picked up a couple very inexpensive Old Navy sleeveless dresses.

This is the first summer where we aren't spending the weekends boating/at the lake so I don't need as much of the really casual pieces anymore....and that makes me happy! I have a decent variety of knit tops, 3 pairs of shorts, 3 knit skits, and a couple of dresses and it's plenty.

I am thrilled to have found dresses this year, both casual styles and several for work. When it's really hot (mid to high 90's and humid), dresses just feel so much more comfortable.

I am so happy I did my warm/hot weather shopping early as Angie suggested. I n the past I would be scrounging around the sale racks this time of year trying to find anything suitable for the heat. I usually have an adequate supply of very casual stuff, but very little to wear otherwise.

This year I have a skirt (much better than any length pants for hot) a cotton knit dress, two linen tops to dress up cotton and tinsel bottoms, and a pair of wide leg grey linen pants. I almost didn't get the linen pants, but so glad I did. they are a nice change from crops and skinnies, and are working well for very warm evenings. I wanted a denim skirt but never found one in the right length-everything either too long or too short. Still looking, but if I don't find one that is ok. Browsed sale racks last week, and came home with nothing--It is OK as I am enjoying my non sale early stuff!!!
