Try dying your eyelashes Christie, and then using mascara. It's works like a charm.

Shannon, how funny that we both seem to be in the same boat here! Yes I do have somewhat oily skin. So maybe I'll give Diorshow a try.

Christi, I'm usually pretty good about getting rid of my mascara after 3-4 months, but I could try changing it more often. I know leaving mascara off my bottom lashes would probably help, it's just I sort of feel un-made when I do that....but then it rubs off anyways so what can I lose?

Nicole, I do always remove my makeup before bed and also shower in the morning before applying, so I wouldn't think it would be a residue problem. (The hot pink bottle is also Great Lash and doesn't work for me either. )

Thanks for the suggestions so far, everyone!

I'[ve tried every mascara from Mary Kay, to cheap drug store brands, to makeup counter brands like Clinique. I find the cheap stuff works best for me. Right now I'm liking the kind that comes in a hit pink bottle with a lime green cap--can't remember the name, but it's cheap-o stuff you can buy anywhere.

But if you are having a smudging problem, it might because you're leaving an oily residue on your lashes from the eye make up remover you use. Also, do you remove your eye make up the night before? Or maybe you'[re not getting all of the make up off?

Another trick that I've done as long as I've worn mascara is to wipe off the brush with a tissue before applying. This prevents clumps and such, but it also puts the correct amount on my lashes so the excess doesn't come off.

I have found two things with respect to mascara. First, the older it is, the more likely it will leave racoon eyes. Now, it's three months and out. Second, my mascara is more likely to leave darkness under my eyes when I put some sort of cream or lotion under my eyes. Now, unless the undereye area is particularly dry, I just leave it (I use eye stuff at night only). Oh, and one more thing, if I put mascara on my bottom lashes, I am more likely to have black stuff under my eyes.

I have used several types of mascara that I have liked: Definicils by lancome, one by stila, and now one by givenchy (I am a Sephora beauty VIP, so I just use whatever one they give for free). They all were great for about a month and a half to two months, then I started having the black stuff issue.

My problem is that I have super-duper long lashes, but they are blonde. I have yet to find a mascara that really shows them off. I don't need length or volume, I just need color, yet even mascara doesn't make them dark enough. Sigh... I suppose only I and various make-up artists that get close enough to my face will be the only ones who notice them.

Hey! I just realized that you are the gal with the "line of gunk" problem just like me. Isn't that funny? We have two shared issues now. Mascara and lipstick. Do you happen to have very oily skin? I am still trying to find a product that will actually keep my skin looking fresh longer than an hour. As soon as a walk out of the house I get oily. It is so aggravating

I have this very same problem! I used to use Great Lash waterproof as well. The mascara would rub off on my eyelids as well as on my face under my eyes. Yuck! I started using Diorshow waterproof back in October and have not looked back. The stuff is great! It is $24 a tube, but well worth it. I just bought my second tube a couple of weeks ago, so it lasted about 4 months, not bad. Do try it!

I have a mascara problem. Even when I use waterproof, whatever I put on ends up smudging off into terrible racoon eyes within a few hours, and it's not like I gob it on. This tends to get a little embaressing when I'm out for the evening with friends - especially if we're snapping pics - and I don't have time to run to the bathroom and wipe away the smudges. I see women everywhere with beautiful, mascara coated lashes and no ugly smudging - what do they know that I don't?!

So other than trying every brand of mascara out there (which could get expensive) I not sure what do. Any suggestions? I'd love to know what you gals have found works good for you. Currently I use either Great Lash waterproof (very black) or L'Oreal Panoramic Curl waterproof (black).
