I'm 70 and was a little reluctant to comment. People often tell me I have really good skin, but they usually aren't happy when I say the best way to have good skin is to do as little as possible.

The same applies to makeup. I don't use any foundation, and never have. I've tried it many times, but it always makes me feel somewhat unnatural and oily. What I do use is Clinique stay-matte sheer pressed powder in small amounts. This is on top of completely clean skin. It lasts all day and doesn't get that that awful oily look you sometimes get with lots of foundations.

Skin care has always been a big priority for me. Foundation or whatever makeup are no substitutes for staying out of the sun, not drinking too much, not smoking, getting plenty of sleep and eating well (lots of fruits and vegetables).

Sorry to be a pedant!

At 65, I'm finding foundations (mineral and liquid) just aren't working for me anymore. I'm lucky that my oilier skin which plagued me when I was younger has meant that my skin is still largely unwrinkled except for the crinkles around my eyes, but, even so, foundations and powders seem to end up migrating into even the slightest wrinkles and crinkles by the end of the day. And I have a real poisoned eye for that because I think it is both aging and unattractive.

I'll wear a tinted moisturizer with sunscreen on occasion, but I'm coming to realize that my skin looks fresher and smoother if I just use a light moisturizer with sunscreen. My makeup these days is a touch of cream blush, a bit of concealer, a brush of mascara on my lashes, and a bit of eyebrow pencil to fill in any sparse areas on my brows. Sometimes I'll add a bit of liner and a touch of neutral lipstick. I use a light hand and blend everything well.

For what it's worth, I think a good skincare routine and regular facials give me better results than any foundation or tinted moisturizer these days.

I'm in my early forties, but I have dry skin and some fine lines, and I absolutely adore Chanel's Vitalumiere liquid foundation. This is the first foundation I've ever used, and I didn't realize how good I had it until just recently because my shade (previously the lightest they carried) was discontinued, and I've been trying to find something similar to no avail (sigh!). Anyway, if they have your shade, this foundation is spectacular for mature/dry skin! It provides light to medium (buildable) coverage and a dewy, natural finish that doesn't look like makeup at all -- it just looks like you have beautiful luminous skin! I use it just where I need it (on cheeks and nose to take down some redness) and I get lots of compliments on my skin when I wear it. Perhaps it will work for you. Good luck with your search!

Paula's Choice has some sheer tint moisturizer with sunscreen in it I've come to love. I have disliked the feel and look of liquid foundation until trying this. It's very light coverage but she has foundations as well.

I'm 48 and have quite dry skin, so haven't been able to use mineral foundation pretty much ...EVER! At the moment I am using Lancome Renergie moisturizer, followed by MAC primer, followed by MAC liquid foundation, then I apply some MAC powder -- but very sparingly and with an exceedingly light touch -- and staying well away from the fine wrinkles around my eyes. It does give an extra layer of polish, I think. But I can't apply too much.

That's for the winter. For summer, I use the Renergie then tinted foundation, and that's it.

In the past I have used a variety of drugstore brand foundations, they are just as good, I like the ones that are formulated to be "age defying." But really, the most critical item is the Lancome moisturizer. Well moisturized, the fine lines just aren't as noticeable, and of course the sunscreen prevents further aging. And this product also helps lighten up any age spots, etc. It's actually designed for women in their 50s+ -- but I've been using it now since my late 30s. It's quite pricey but worth every last penny. Can't live without it!

i switched to liquid from mineral around 38, 40 and love the difference. I'm a big fan of mineral makeup, but past a certain age it's just too wrinkle-enhancing!

i use revlon colorstay, dry to normal, it provides the only eyeshadow base that works for me (i have 'hot' eyelids that literally eat eye makeup, dry everywhere else). i use a tip i learned from Kevin Aucoyn (sp?) - try out only applying foundation where needed in the central triangle of your face. That's from the eyebrows on top down to the point of your cheek. It lets your real complexion glow and makes it easier to avoid looking overdone.

two great sites if you'd like to do research before you go get some samples:

http://www.makeupgeek.com

http://www.makeupalley.com/

just in case you're like me and prefer a 'no makeup'makeup look, don't be alarmed by the wonderfully outrageous makeup looks! The product and application info is what you're after - just put on less for a more subtle effect have fun! steph

I have started mixing my foundation with a bit of moisturizer, and also patting a bit of moisturizer onto the tops of my cheekbones after all my makeup is complete (almost like you would put a highlighter). I don't so much have wrinkles (yet!!) but do have quite dry skin and these tips have both helped a lot!

I use a tinted B and B cream (Vichy) and find it evens out my skin tone without being visible as foundation. I agree that powder can accentuate lines or wrinkles.

I'm 60+ and have been using a Nars tinted moisturiser since having a Nordies makeover last year. I've been very happy with it, it has a very natural finish and covers some pale "age spots" but doesn't accentuate my laughter lines. And I love how my skin doesn't feel as dry as it used to when I was using a heavier foundation.

I do think the mineral foundation can accentuate wrinkles. I'm finding that liquid foundation applied with a damp sponge seems to go on well. I use the Beauty Blender sponge, which I bought on Amazon after finding out about it here!

I have been using mineral powder foundation for several years and like the ease of application and natural look. However, being 58 years old now and showing more than a few wrinkles, I am wondering if a liquid foundation would be a better choice (appear less wrinkly?). Opinions please!
