YLF Friends- thanks for making me not feel so bad and giving encouragement that I will get to wear the blazers before the season ends.
It’s frustrating when you purchase items with grand designs of perfect outfits in your head but can’t implement them because of the stupid weather- lol. With your guidance I will look to the future and keep fingers crossed.

efbgen, I feel your pain! I have the same problem with... most of my clothes! These heatwaves are real style killers. Rest assured, your purchase was wise and useful. Only not so useful this year so far. This is happening to me with items bought last year and the year before, that had sat in my closet because summer weather is so freakish. This year, they came out to play almost exclusvely!
When I was in Calgary, I was reminded of the subtle but crucial difference between the West and East coasts in term of chill. Even in a heatwave, Alberta air will sometimes brush your skin and give you goosebumps, making you want to reach for the next topper in hand, even as you're walking down a sunny street. One minute later, you're sweating profusely.
I had an epiphany when I realized it's all in the wind. Out West, in summer, you're fine as long as you have a wind breaker. Even the thinnest ones will do. In the east, the humidity makes a windbreaker uncomfortably sticky.
So keep your blazers, as they will fine their vocation.

Another way is to look at them as the center around which you build outfits, instead of considering them as add-ons. I find the perfect add-ons a rare and precious occurence anyway. However, if you start with the topper, and put the rest on as an afterthought (an important afterthought, I will give you that!), you can get workable, stylish surprises. For example, put the navy blazer on: then grab some jeans or silk track pants to put underneath and a white tee or cami. Get footwear to match blazer, not top. Or get unapologetic casual footwear that almost look like an excuse because you had to have something in your feet, but the main character, the star of your show is the blazer. Pay attention to collar line with blazer on. Compliment the blazer with jewelry, not tee shirt/blouse alone.
Take the white one, then find some skirt or dress to pop out of. Not the blazer covering an existing outfit. White blazers look good with printed tees, especially rocker ones. Or with very sweet, romatic basics such as a flowy, full skirt or fluid wide leg pants.

You may still get to wear your blazers this summer. I think long-term with my clothing purchases. Our weather is so unpredictable. This summer has been extremely hot (like yours). Last year it was rained most of the summer.
The only clothes I know for certain that I am going to wear within a month are Yoga clothes and underwear.

You’re stressing over not needing some items you bought a couple months ago? If they’re long-haul things that you’ll have for years, I don’t see why uncooperative weather is a problem. Who knows, maybe you’ll also have a warmer-than-average winter and find that these are just right then.

I had to laugh about being a "conscientious Fabber" counting my wears! More of an OCD Fabber in my case! You know Angie doesn't count hers, she feels it takes the fun out of it. It is just a tool I use to give me more control over my previously uncontrollable wardrobe, control in part of my life where there is so much I can't control in the political situation, my children's romances etc etc. It is helping me to choose outfits, wear certain items etc. I hope for you you will get the chance to wear those items when your heat wave passes.

I always feel like I am making mistakes! I like what Jane said, that this is a journey and not simply a destination. I know that it takes me quite a while to determine how important something is to my wardrobe, and I need to be patient and let things percolate. In your case, I'm guessing that cooler weather will eventually come, and then you will be able to assess the importance of your purchases. But it can sure be frustrating when the weather is atypical and foils your plans!

I don’t necessarily think that you ve made a mistake. The weather here is so variable from year to year that things I wear one year ,I don’t another.Blazers are a classic so I would suggest hanging on to them and you might find that they are very useful at the beginning and end of seasons when the temperatures are more moderate.

I try to wear everything in my closet a lot, but I still make mistakes. These, though, don’t sound like mistakes. You’ll probably find yourself wearing them a lot towards the end of the summer when mornings and evenings get cooler, even if it heated up fast this spring.

Yes, absolutely.

But may be in more general terms, I do wonder if I am viewing the whole thing in the wrong way, so if I changed my perspective to a more 'this is my journey and I won't ever be there'. It goes against the grain, because I do like to complete a project!

But it is much more along the lines of Angie's 'on this leg of my style journey'. And I am so grateful for the wardrobe that I have now and that I have time and access to good shops, thrift, fast fashion, high end etc to update as needed.

I would think that you have made The Right Decision, and that it will all fall into place.

I've had similar second thoughts. However, the weather patterns are becoming so weird that I've learned to ignore those voices in my head and hang on to anything I'm questioning

Because I will regret returning or donating the things I start second guessing.

BJ-all my stuff is classic sporty so it will carry for a few rounds. It just irks me that they sit there temporarily not earning their keep. ...especially when those conscientious fabbers that count their wears start posting -lol.
CHRISTINA- the weather is more a wild card for me than my purchases. You made me chuckle- all I could think reading your post is- if she gets rid of those sweaters we will have a doozy of a cold snap! Right!?
Thanks for letting me not feel so all alone

efbgen, I think climate is so variable these days that you will find a use for those blazers. It’s a shame that this summer, when you bought them, is not that time. I have had a few winters lately where I’ve needed very heavy sweaters, but the past couple haven’t been that way. I know getting rid of all the heavy sweaters would be a mistake, though.

doing an inventory is such a useful activity. sometimes the weather just does not cooperate. i culled so much this spring and added judiciously, but i still haven't worn a few items due to the weather.

are the jackets very trendy or classic-with-a-twist? if the latter, good chance that you'll be able to make them fall/winter-worthy or wear them next spring.

Before every change of season I take an inventory- you all know the drill. What stays, what goes, what needs to be restyled because it’s a piece you love but needs an update. Then there is “ the plan”.......those pieces I must shop for to replace or fill a need in the wardrobe.
Well- this Spring I determined my wardrobe was too heavy with the light weight cardis you need to ward off the chill of full blasting AC in stores, restaurants etc ( I’m not a fan of AC): I felt I needed light weight blazers for times I need a more polished look. So I got really great deals on a white and a navy ( both perfect for seamless addition to rest of closet.)
So why am I wondering if I made the right decision?
It has been so hot that cool nights are non- existent and facilities have their AC in full tilt mode and still not cool enough to wear anything but sleeveless. So they sit........

Have you made what you thought was a great plan, a reasonable purchase and still felt you missed the mark????
