I'm a size 8-10 curvy hourglass, and I buy a lot of work clothes at Ann Taylor. Banana Republic Martin and Jackson cut trousers also work. Halogen at Nordstrom can also be ok for skirts. I also get a lot of my work dresses at Ann Taylor. In general, I wear faux wrap styles (with a cami underneath--almost all are too low cut for work).

I get my jeans from Gap (Perfect Boot and Curvy Boot cuts).

For my top half, I stick with knits--very few woven shirts/blouses suit my shape, and those that do tend to cost more than I can afford. I own one blazer from AT.

I only have occasion to wear a party/cocktail dress a couple times a year, so I own exactly one: this.

I'm an hourglass and I love Rebecca Taylor jackets and dresses. I also think Trina Turk dresses are nice quality for a reasonable price. Both are well made and work well for our shape.

I'm a pear and have found that tops & shirts from Vero Moda, Espirit, Retro jeans, American Eagle, Gap, H&M, Tommy hilfiger seem to fit well. For skirts and jeans I like Vero Moda & Gap. BR offers good Martin fit trousers. So are express editor pants.

Right now the lower stance jackets (i.e. one button below the waist) are more current. And you're right -- they tend to skim the curves rather than hug them. Which sounds good in theory but works better for some body types than others.

I fall into the category that actually gets a really good fit at Zara in jackets (slim hourglass/ rectangle with a small bust). However, our forum mate Rute in Portugal is a fuller busted hourglass and petite and she gets a phenomenal fit in many Zara pieces. So don't rule them out entirely!

One option might be to look for jackets that have some stretch to the fabrication.

I would also watch forum member Janet's posts. She may have similar proportions to yours. She is about your height (maybe a bit taller) with a beautiful curvy hourglass figure. And she wears jackets with the best of them!! Most of hers are on the edgier side (i.e. not suit like jackets) but she's a champion shopper with a stunning wardrobe, and can probably offer lots of inspiration .

I love knits--St. John and Eileen Fisher's ponte skirts. And I take advantage of Nordie's alteration services--I have been known to buy things because the material was so fabulous and have them practically rework it to flatter my curves.

NYDJ pants work well, as do some of the curvy styles from Brooks Brothers and Eddie Bauer.

I just noticed that I do not distinguish between jackets and blazers. I am interested in blazers (i.e. jackets for suits), but this whole thread is more general--labels that offer clothes flattering clothes for hour glass figures.

My question was inspired by this this blog response from a different website. Because the answers were a couple of years old, I wanted to check other people's opinions here.

I am based in the US.

You are right that three button jackets are most flattering on me/hour glass. That's what I meant to say. If I am in a casual environment, I would wear them open.

The problem is that most of the jackets available in the stores are either one or two button. I do not find a large selection of three-button jackets. I found one online exclusive from Ann Taylor, and I got it even though I was not thrilled about the color (ashy dark brown which is not the best color for me but I got it because of the fit.) I am looking now for a navy blazer but the only one I've seen is from Ralph Lauren and I do not like the fabric.

My proportions: 5'7", 133lb, 36C.

Hi Anna - not knowing what you look like, and just going from your description....I find that Banana R seems to stick to a skirt fit that is definitely waist-enhancing and hour glass friendly - at least for the skirts that have waistbands. Their pencil skirts with no waistband likely won't work, so avoid them. Their blazers and pants are also really good for an hour glass - and I'm not sure what you mean about the button number on the jackets - I think there's a typo there....:)

Do you wear your jackets buttoned ? I think that's where some blazers can veer off into matronly territory....
I think a 3 button jacket actually looks great on an hour glass - if cut properly. Those are the ones that are usually waist enhancing.

So - Banana R is my recommendation. Are you in the US, or Canada?

Ladies,

I find it difficult to select anything from a store like Zara. I think their cuts primarily target very slim figures or pencil type bodies.

Not sure if this was discussed before, but I would love to hear where those of you with hour glass figure like to shop for party clothes, work wear, casual outfits, etc..

I have hour-glass figure and I find that clothes that accentuate the waist are most suitable. Jackets that are three button are better; those with one or two buttons bellow the bust line do not look on me. Unfortunately, I think that the three button blazers always create a matronly look while the one and two look younger and edgier.

Your thoughts are highly appreciated.
