They are gorgeous. I know people who would kill to have loose boots. They look great loose to my eye, for smart casual especially.

I understand your frustration and have the same trouble with calves being too large most of the time. Angie has posted lists of narrow calf boots in the past that might still be helpful.

As to the rubber soles, I understand that they can't be replaced, but I have had some very nicely made rubber sole boots and I am not sure I would view this as a negative. For one, the comfort factor of my favorite pair puts me over the moon. Additionally, I figure by the time the soles are that worn, I am likely to be ready for a new look. Now, if these were mega-expensive "heirloom" boots, that might be different. I do recognize that boots are often a daunting portion of shoe budgets, so you should be very happy with the pair you choose. Maybe looking a bit more makes sense, as does a specific search for narrow calf boots. Good luck!

Anna, I know it's a pain but I think I would return the boots. I'm on a mission now...I'm going to start searching for your perfect boot:).

Most of my skirts are just above my knee, pencil style. Dresses are mostly either just above or just below my knee - several variations of shirt dresses and mock-wrap dresses mostly. I think the boots would look better if they were a little bit slimmer. I have a pair which are about a 1/2 inch slimmer, and I already question whether they are too wide with skirts. I'm not sure if these are over-all slouchy enough to get away with being so loose.

I'm actually feeling a bit frustrated by them today - spoke to 3 different bootmakers whose quotes ranged from $30 - $90+ for alterations, which brings the cost of the boots to anywhere from $210 - ??? I also spoke to someone who custom makes boots and he hated the idea of rubber soles, as you can't replace them - once they wear through, the life off the boots is over. I wanted these soles for comfort, but I also want them to last!

Given that I can easily purchase 3 "other" pairs of shoes for the cost of this single pair of (altered) boots, I'm wondering if I should just return these, and stick to ankle boots (which tend to fit ok "off the rack") and/or keep looking! This would be at least my 3rd winter of trying to find the "perfect" boots, so it gets frustrating at times!!

I might head into the city on the weekend and have another look at alternatives before making a final decision!

Nice boots. I'm not sure Anna. I think for tucking jeans into they look fine. The roominess kind of works with the boot style. However I'm u sure about skirts. What style skirts are we talking?

I think I'm going to chance them with a cobbler. I think if I tried them with opaques and skirts they'd look way too big. Might be ok with straight (rather than skinny) jeans, but I'm more likely to wear with skinnies or opaques.

Thanks for your advice!

I'd love some opinions!

I've decided to keep these boots - they suit my style, and are incredibly comfortable! I've been searching for the "perfect" pair of boots for several seasons, and these tick most boxes, except for one small issue...

I have skinny calves, so I find it quite difficult to find boots that fit my legs - they often bag out by a couple of inches. Do you think it matters? I'd like to wear them with skinny jeans, and possibly opaque tights and skirts.

What's your preferred fit for boots? Do you think these are ok "as is" or is it worth having them taken in slightly by a cobbler? (The boots were on sale, so it'll cost approximately what I've "saved" to have them altered).
