Ann, they have lovely clothes, very on trend, as Angie would say. The sales people I've worked with have also been quite good stylists. i try to save up my money to be able to shop there from time to time! I live in Metro West West, so I usually go to the location in Concord, but I can easily get to the one in Wellesley. If you ever feel like taking a trip, I'll meet you there. We can have a mini YLF meet-up! Maybe there are others in the area who'd like to join us, too.

BethL, thanks for the tip on the Lyn Evans boutiques. I have not heard of them, but I might need to take a trip to Metro-West.

I love my Gap scoop neck tees, and you can't beat the price, especially if you can get them on sale. They also make a v-neck as I believe someone else said. They wash and dry nicely, too. I also love Three Dot tees, though they are more expensive. They make all kinds of fab tees. I agree with lynne: size up, and I would also add: don't dry them in the dryer. If you can get to one of the Lyn Evans boutiques around, they carry a lot of the Three Dots shirts.

For the price, the St. John's Bay from JC Penney (a.k.a. "JCP" now) tees cannot be beat (imo).

Here are a couple of examples to look at:

Also...

Jones New York makes very nice tees:

---> editing to add: for some reason, the links to the various JNY tees I was wanting to mention below aren't working - I'll see if I can fix it. --> couldn't fix the links - you will have to go the the JNY site and search on tops to see their tees.

http://www.jny.com/Cotton-V-ne.....ny-catalog

http://www.jny.com/Cotton-Basi.....ny-catalog

http://www.jny.com/Ballet-Neck.....ny-catalog

In my experience, the JCP St. John's Bay and the JNY tees are thicker, wear well, wash up nicely and are much better than the usual 'tissue-weight' type tees that are so popular these days. The JNY is a bit better than the St. John's Bay from JCP - but like I said, the JCP St. John's Bay tees are very good - especially for the price. I think you can get the Jones New York tees at Macy's too, and probably other places as well.

Ack - can't get the links to work on JNY's site...I'm referring to:

JNY Sport Cotton V-Neck tee
JNY Cotton Basic Scoop Neck tee
Long Sleeved Scoop Neck tee
Ballet Neck tee

* just go to the JNY site and look up tops, and see the various tees available. Sorry - not sure why I can't get the correct links in here.

disclaimer: I haven't tried the Three Dots tees yet, or the 'favourite' tee from Eddie Bauer or what have you.

I personally love both my Target 'boyfriend' modal tee and my Old Navy chiffon pocket tee. They are drapey, not typical cotton layering tops, though.
I have an Alternative Apparel v-neck that's all cotton that's holding up well. The modal/silk version shrunk terribly though!
I did have my eyes on a Market T by Rebecca Beeson for some time but never tried it.

I depend on Gap and Jcrew t-shirts mostly. Some long sleeve versions I've gotten at EB. Jcrew are always longer in my experience so if you prefer a hip bone length they may not be right. I've also gotten many casual t's from Lands End Canvas.

I like Eddie Bauer, Bass, or J. Crew for t-shirts. The Eddie Bauer and J Crew ones are thinner and longer while the Bass ones are more substantial but hit higher on the hip. Still not as high as something like LL Bean. I like the 3/4 sleeve scoop necks at Eddie Bauer a lot (I have 3 of them in white). The EB outlet ones are thinner and not as nice and the price isn't good enough to justify the reduced quality.

Ladies, I have a huge hole in my wardrobe: basic t-shirts in white and black. I prefer v-neck and/or deep scoop-neck. I'd like to find the "perfect" shirt that I can buy in multiples and rebuy when necessary -- you know, the Steve Jobs way (though not custom-made, obviously).

So please share the brands that you love. I'm willing to spend a bit more than normal since they will be worn and laundered a lot, but price is still a factor since I am not, in fact, Steve Jobs.

Thanks!
