Thanks Angie! I feel better about it now. :-)

The pants definitely need to be let out, to be PPL. Just need to decide which shoes I will probably wear with them. I would love to wear them with my highest heels, to make my legs look longer (since the jacket hits lower than I normally wear), but the reality is I will probably get more wear out of the pants suit than the skirt suit for business, and a more modest heel would be much more practical and wise for work. (Consider: standing around trade show floors and conventions for 8 hours).

I think the problem with the skirt hem is that depending on how bloated my tummy is, the hem (and the waistband) rises and lowers! Also for work I would prefer a hemline that doesn't reveal too much leg when I sit down. But, if I did shorten it, I would probably get more use out of the skirt beyond work occasions. I will have to think that through.

As for the jacket, I am realizing that it's a different neckline than I usually wear for suits, which has been throwing me off. It's really meant to be paired with a button down - something I rarely wear. I have tried it with my other blouses and (other than this pink one, which works rather well), it seems best with a button down.

I plan to take it all into the tailor anyway (along with a stack of minor jobs I've been hoarding), so we'll see what they recommend. Now that I'm over jetlag, I'm pleased I did this. I love having a special item of clothing to remember our trips.

I have finally gotten to this thread! Thanks for posting the pictures, Shiny. Lots of them! (Love the compliment from the 80 year old dear. How fab).

I think that this is an absolutely SPLENDID suit. I would really like to see it on in person! Exquisite colour and fabric. You did well :0). Love you in that cranberry shade of pink too. Here is my 2 cents:

o	Take up the skirt a little – an inch or two
o	The pants look perfect to me. Make sure they are the right length for heels :0)
o	I think the jacket is fabulous as is. I would not have it altered at all from what I can see in the pics.

Sooooooo, an overall KILLER rating from me. You look beautiful in that suit and I love seeing you in it!

Start a separate thread on how to mix and match the pieces, please!

I do have a lavender blouse. I have such mixed feelings about pastels. Pastels flatter me, but being short and all, I have long steered clear because I thought pastels made me too "cute" looking. Too young, when I was younger and wanted to look my age.... and now that I'm older, I worry it makes me look too old (like the grandma in the pastel colored suit... you know what I mean).

I bought that lavender blouse anyway, and learned that I could get it to work if I added black and/or white. So I'm not sure about pairing it with navy. I will give it a try - because I trust everyone at YLF! I never say never anymore!!!

Shiny, I echo what everyone said. I like the suit, and it's great that you picked navy - it's a fresher and softer look. The jacket looks great to me. The pants look good, too - they are more "classic" cut, but I think it's a good thing I am not sure about the seam - it's hard to evaluate it from the pictures - but from the way you're describing you should be able to fix it. I like the skirt, too - and it shouldn't be a problem to take it in. It looks very versatile, and you can really mix and match it with trendy pieces. I agree about treating it as black when you decide what colors to wear with it. Just off the top of my head, pink, fuchsia, purple, various greens, grey, taupe, red... what's nice about navy is that it works well with pastels, like lavender. Don't you have a lavender blouse?

LE and Ana - such GREAT ideas! I love the idea of green pumps. I will have to keep an eye out for something like that. And I no longer have those purple tights, as they got a hole the first time I wore them (Grrr). I do have a paisley scarf...

Have not been able to get to the tailor yet - shooting for next week.

It's hard for me to say how the suit fits exactly and what should be changed without seeing it in person. I do see the ripply seam on the pants though, that always drives me crazy. I think you're right, the tension was set too high on the sewing machine, or else they've mismatched up the grain of the fabric in that spot so it's not draping the way it should. I think you can get these things fixed. Have you been to a tailor yet and asked them about it?

For a more smart casual look, I like LE's suggestion of mixing it into the MOTG formulas. You could wear a denim jacket or cardigan with the pants or skirt. Almost any jewel tone would work. I seem to remember you have a really cool blue and purple paisley scarf. I think that would look interesting.

Hmm, I'm not able to get a good look at the pants seam. Take it to your local tailor and see what they think.

It's interesting that you told them you wanted a pencil shape, and then they told you what you really wanted! I'd take it to your tailor and see what they can do.

Your suit is so versatile! I would love to see a green pump with it! I think just about any color (besides a matching navy) would be very chic. What about snakeskin? Or your giraffe pumps?

I'd try cream, yellow, rich tones, pale tones (I think you've said those don't work for you as well), robin's egg blue, white, and light grey. Wear the same things you wore with your black suits, and think of it as a "less harsh" combination, and see what items you have work!

Use each piece in the MOTG formulas, in the place of other skirts/pants/jackets and it will give you a more modern, dressier casual-but-not-too-casual look with a bit of edge to it. Do you still have those purply tights you had last year? Would those work with your skirt, boots, and a sweater or blouse/cardigan combo?

Thanks all! Maybe I really am just too picky?

LauraElizabeth and Rute, I was also thinking the skirt could be slimmer through the hips. The problem may be that when it is slimmer in the hips, my tummy looks more pronounced. I initially asked them to give it a more pencil shape - tapering in at the bottom - but they said "no, you want it more classic like this."

As for the length, I'm open to suggestions; I do normally like my skirts on the short side, but it's also nice to have a skirt that's to the knee but not above, so that when I sit, it's not riding up showing too much leg.

The pants - nobody sees the ripply seam on the inside of the right leg (my right leg) in this photo?
http://s386.photobucket.com/al.....ong012.jpg

That's not wrinkles. I'm not sure what it is. Both legs do it (you just can't see the left seam in this pic). My initial guess was it was something about how the pants were draping, but I'm also now wondering if the tension was set to high when they sewed the seam.

The fabric is a cashmere-wool blend. While it did wrinkle after 24 hours crammed into the suitcase, most of the wrinkles fell out after hanging it up overnight. The fabric is quite lightweight. I could easily wear this in the high heat of the summer and never break a sweat, so it will work perfectly when I travel to CA on business. Something appropriate for summer/spring/early fall was my ultimate goal, because I already have a black ponte knit suit and lots of separates that work great for Boston winters.

When I wore it outside yesterday in 50 degree weather, with only the sleeveless shell underneath, I was perfectly comfortable indoors but chilly without a coat. But as I said, there's room for a cardigan underneath. I usually feel too fussy and starched and overheated with button down blouses, but that works well under this suit too.

The suit has a 5-year guarantee, and if I gain or lose weight, I can mail it back for free alterations. It would be too costly to actually do that, but if I lived in HK it would be a nice benefit. They did leave enough in all the seams I could gain probably a full size and have it let out.

More questions: if I was to mix and match these pieces, with other separates, what do you recommend? (Other than wearing the jacket with jeans). For example, let's say I have a 3-4 day business trip. I take this suit, I have two ways to wear it (with skirt, with pants). What color skirt or pants or jacket can I add to my suitcase to mix and match? Would gray work? What else?

Also, what about shoes? Do these black pumps work? What other color shoes would you try?

Any suggestions for smart casual ways to wear the individual pieces?

It's been a long, long time since I owned a navy suit - probably 20 years; I usually stick to black! So I really have no clue. I think the pink shell works. I can imagine a french blue button down (and now I'm wishing I'd had them make me one). Otherwise, I'm stumped. Any and all suggestions are welcome!

I agree with Taylor that the skirt looks a little roomy. My eye is used to a slimmer skirt line, but I don't think the waist is the area my eye goes to, it's the hip area. Maybe the waist alterations affected that? Other than that, I didn't notice anything "off" visually.

Again, you look beautiful!

I can't see all the minor imperfections you mention (the inside seams, for example), but my overall impression is that the suit is quite beautifully tailored. I do agree that the armholes are slightly low, but other than that, I think the fit is really good. Yes, its looser than some modern fits, but its not as loose as fits from the 80s and 90s. Likewise, the pants and skirt drape and hug just right.

Its a lovely classic silhouette and style, IMO.

What is the fabric? I love the deep blue.

Shiny...WOW ....what beautiful fabric!!! And great job with the pics.:)

While I am no expert..my take is ....the jacket is beautiful on you..it looks perfect to me.

the skirt may need some tweeking...not much , a slimmer fit and perhaps a bit shorter....If you like a longer hem ignore that...but as tiny as you are a little more leg is nice to see.

The pants I actually like...I think you may prefer the slimmer leg liike the AT that you have...I think that would be an easy alteration....but they look very nice as they are, it does look like a classic style that has a timeless elegance about it:)

I must say ...very beautiful overall:)

I don't know enough about fittings and alterations to be of much help, but FWIW, I agree that the arm holes look a little big. Overall I think it will make an amazing suit once it has one final tweak and I'm VERY impressed that they were able to accomplish so much in such a short amount of time. When I ask for my jeans to be hemmed, it takes a week!

Really want everyone's expert eye on this. What alterations, if any, would you have done? I am so used to "shrunken" style jackets, and wearing things super-fitted. The tailor in HK insisted this was more of a conservative, classic cut - which is what I *did* ask for. I already have trendy suits in my closet. I want something that will be more timeless.

There are three pieces to the suit. The entire album (with various angles) is here:

http://s386.photobucket.com/al.....at43/suit/
pw is ylf2008

1) I wore the jackets with jeans and slouchy boots today - and I have to say, the jacket is SOOO comfortable!!! I did feel sharp and spiffy in it, styled this way with jeans. An 80 year old man approached me in the drugstore and told me I was beautiful - but I needed to smile! Made my day. :-)

There is enough room with the jacket, I could layer a long-sleeve button down easily (I tried - no pics though), OR even a cardigan (like in that video recently posted), and not feel constricted. And I can sit in it without having to unbutton it.

Close-up of front of jacket (ignore any wrinkles):
http://s386.photobucket.com/al.....ong003.jpg

I was concerned (at the very first fitting) that the armpits were cut too low. Am I crazy?

The shoulders also seem just a tad too wide... but I did have them take them in once already. So I don't know if this is how it's "supposed" to be, but I just tend to like mine even more fitted?

2) Jacket sideview

http://s386.photobucket.com/al.....ong004.jpg

This is MUCH improved after the second fitting - it was originally much too loose in the chest, and not fitted enough in the waist. It was also way too loose in the tummy area, but that was fixed. I am okay with that part, just the way it is now - will allow for some bloating and fluctuations. Otherwise, what do you think?

3) Jacket back

http://s386.photobucket.com/al.....ong005.jpg

I'm not sure if you can see this well, but the back view bugs me the most. Particularly just under the collar. They'd put in a pin at the second fitting, for more alterations, showing me how it rolled up funny there. You can't see it well in this photo, but it's still doing that rolling thing - I have the distinct impression they ran out of time and forgot this alteration completely.

I have that rolling thing with another jacket, and I was always under the impression it happens when the shoulders are too tight.... but in this case, the shoulders are definitely not too tight; they may be too loose, if anything. So I'm not sure why that rolling happens?

4) Skirt

Front
http://s386.photobucket.com/al.....ong006.jpg

http://s386.photobucket.com/al.....ong010.jpg

Side
http://s386.photobucket.com/al.....ong007.jpg

http://s386.photobucket.com/al.....ong011.jpg

Back
http://s386.photobucket.com/al.....ong009.jpg

Skirts are always the most difficult for me to fit, so I have no idea if this is right or needs more alterations - I just know I have a few skirts that definitely look better than this (though are a tad too tight in the waist). To be fair, this was a BIG challenge for the tailors since my tummy size was all over the map during the fittings.

What do you think still needs to be done? I have the sense just one more fitting will make a huge difference - agree? Right now - now that the bloating is past - it feels quite loose, like it's one size too big?

5) Pants

http://s386.photobucket.com/al.....ong012.jpg

http://s386.photobucket.com/al.....ong013.jpg

http://s386.photobucket.com/al.....ong014.jpg

Without jacket:
http://s386.photobucket.com/al.....ong015.jpg

http://s386.photobucket.com/al.....ong016.jpg

http://s386.photobucket.com/al.....ong017.jpg

... they are growing on me, now that I see these pictures. Not as bad as I thought. Here's what is bugging me:

a) PPL - it's not there yet. But I didn't have any heels for the fitting, so I just told them to guesstimate it and leave me a huge 2 inch hem. So no matter what else I do, I need to let out this hem about 1/2 inch or so.

b) I guess the waistband is more of a BR Harrison type high waisted fit. I had asked for the waistband to hit just below the belly button - but I had all this bloating going on.... so it got all skewed. They did lower the waistband during the third and final fitting, I can see that now, so it's not too bad. But something still seems "off" to me. They don't flatter as much as the new AT dress slacks. (I should probably take pics of me in those, so you can see what I mean!!)

c) most of all, there is something funky going on with the inner thigh seams. Can you see it? They are rippling or something - and those aren't wrinkles from being in the luggage. I'd pointed that out at the fittings, but they told me it looked fine to them. It is bugging me. Too loose? That is my guess - but I'm not sure what that is.

Sorry this is so long! I'm going to bed soon, but I am hoping I can get some good constructive feedback from your eagle eyes! I would personally rate the suit maybe a 7 right now, not a 10. The jacket I like the most, but I still think it needs some tweaks to bring it up to a 10? Or am I just way too picky?
