Of the pics you posted, I liked the blue best. It could be the contrast between what you were wearing, though, as the other gray bags seemed to blend in.

Are you ok with that cross body length? Bc to me they seem kind of short. But I like my cross body bags to hit at my hip for ease of getting to things inside. Ymmv though.

Curious to follow you on this journey :)

Keep us posted, ok?

It was a good idea to take the pics. I can see that the two gray bags look large for me. The blue bag seems the right size. I'm curious if that is what other people see also? The blue bag as pictured is filled with all that I typically carry on a work day, plus it still has room for more. It's very spacious.

I think I will return the other two bags. I may look at the Marcie bag. I think the problem with the gray bags is their width, (If i measure height, depth, and width).

Dashielle, that's exactly what I was thinking. I called it a "hand bag" in my original post, but no one picked up on my pun.

JayS, I'm glad to hear that the Marcie bag has a zipper at the top. I think I would prefer it to the Baylee. The strap on the Baylee is not a color that I like, it's a greenish grayish tan, if there is such a thing! I like the color of the main bag though. The Marcie bag comes in the color I like without the strange strap.

Just chiming in to say that I have the Chole Marcie bag in grey. I'm finding it very versatile. Btw, the bag does zip across the top...like you, I dislike bags that don't close securely. The flap opens to reveal a nice pocket..a great place to keep my phone. The leather is wearing very nicely. The Nordies site has a picture of the bag from the top so that you can see the interior.

Thimblelina, your point about the squish factor is good. I also need to store my bag in file cabinet drawers, depending on where I work for the day. I forgot this important factor in my bag search! Easy enough to do because it only comes up a couple times a month.

The Dooney and Burke is structured, and is not a bag I would use everyday. It would come out for shopping, and going out to dinner or maybe a movie, etc. I love the color. I didn't even think about the label. I will look at the bag to see how prominent it is? It was the shape and color that attracted me to the bag. I also like that it is made of Saffiano leather which has been treated to resist weather. Perfect for the climate where I live.

It doesn't sound like anyone is finding the "hand" hardware on the Opening Ceremony bag creepy. I will try to take some pics of me holding the bag for proportions.

Carter, thanks for the tip on belts! Very useful!

Among the oyster colored bags I like that Opening Ceremony one a lot. I think it is the shape & the strong silver hardware. I have a persimmon bag like the blue dooney & burke (under an italian label from down in the south near genova; I prefer bags without labels but I need to get over that) and yes I love the structure it provides but I hardly carry it because it is so hard to lock up in many of the school sites where I sub. I have switched to carrying a narrow, unstructured leather backpack for work because I need the squish factor to stash it safely away.

I'm definitely a hands free bag person. Cross-body does the trick for this. If I want to use it as a hand bag, it's nice to have good straps. I use organizers inside the bag so I can find everything easily, and if I want to make a transfer between purses, I just pull out my organizers and switch. It also keeps the interior of the bag clean. I probably carry more than most, so I need at least a medium bag. In the past, I have mostly used a soft sided bag rather than something with structure. I find it much more difficult to see what's inside. An exterior, easy access pocket is very nice. I like to keep my mobile phone handy; within reach so I don't miss calls. I receive so many that it becomes a nuisance to return them. It's much easier to take them when they arrive. One drawback of the Chloe bag is that it lacks an exterior pocket for my phone.

I like the Chloe choices (I have an "Ethel") which has served me well and prefer the clean lines of the Baylee to the Marcie but it really is how the bag works with you and your proportions. My advice is not to compromise on comfort and buy the best you can afford. Better one great bag than a closet full imo.

I see that the small Baylee is in the Net a Porter sale....

I like 2 and 3 best, but purses are so personal. I don't think you can go wrong with any of them. Try Belts.com for some belt options. You can pick a buckle and multiple straps. Be very sure to follow their measuring instructions if you decide to order...I would have done it incorrectly.

They're all great looking bags. I think seeing them "on" you would be helpful, and also, the others raise good points about the way you tend to carry and use a bag. This is such a personal thing. What works for one will not work so well for others.

Well I like all the bags. But I think the most important questions are 1) do they fit what you want/ need to carry? 2) how heavy are they when filled with your stuff? 3) when filled, can you find what you are looking for, or will you need to pull everything out to answer your phone or find your keys? IMO, a bag needs to work, as well as be good looking.

What kind of "purse person" are you? Do you like to carry the bag on your arm or like a bowling bag or do you like hands-free shoulder-carry. I am not a satchel person--I don't seem to be able to "carry it off" and feel myself, so it is hard for me to recognize a good one.

I do have a handbag in a gray, for me very slightly purply-gray, and find it very versatile, so the pale grays look good color-wise.

I'm trying to develop a system of just a few seasonal bag changes but sometimes I can't figure out, gray bag as neutral, but then I wear a lot of gray and black clothing, vs. a berry-tone, vs. a whole 'nuther direction like a contrasting mustard or something. So, I imagine you may line up your clothing or your planned wardrobe and see whether it leads you to a certain color, whether to be more matchy or more contrast-y.

I'm also very user-friendly-conscious with handbags and put them through paces of how they zip, how easy to get stuff in and out, what compartments. In the store I will take out the "stuffiing" and put in my various objects and see how it works. I do use several types of purse-organizer thingies inside, though.

I love the 2 tone leather on bag 3 but seeing it on the model ( in the blue version), the strap seems very large, almost cumbersome. How does it feel when you have it on your shoulder?
The first bag is fun and a bit different, plus with the texture it would probably stand up well to everyday use.
Are you concerned at all about the colour of the hardware ( gold v silver) on your bags?

Can you post pics of yourself carrying the bags? I think with bags a lot depends on scale. A bag can look fab on one person and too small or too big on another.

I need belts and am having a hard time finding them. I need hip length belts that will go with winter white, and with grey. I need a good wide belt that will go around my waist to wear over dresses and sweaters. I haven't found anything that inspires me to make a purchase.

I did find some purses.

I actually don't have a lot of bags considering my previous maximal closet. If I look at the number of bags that go with my new color palate, the number quickly dwindles to two. I have one green coach hobo, and one MZ Wallace bag. I would like to have some variety because I do switch purses, and use them as an accessory. I thought it would be nice to start with something medium sized for everyday, something slightly smaller for when I shop, and then I could use a clutch for when I dress up and go out. I purchase bags infrequently and use them for a long time, so it doesn't bother me to spend money on a good bag. My big concerns are whether they are classic enough to work over time. Here are some bags that I ordered and that have arrived.

1. The Opening Ceremony croc embossed "hand bag". I couldn't resist this croc embossed hand hardware bag. . Is it strange? creepy? or is it fun? It meets my size requirements, and I like that it zips shut and has a cross-body strap. The leather seems strong and the hardware looks strong and substantial. Is it too funky to work for a few years? Will it become dated?
2. The Dooney and Burke bag is a perfect size for when I go shopping, or out for dinner, etc. I love the color. This one is definitely a keeper and it isn't overly costly so I'm not worried about it's style. Oh, it also has a cross-body strap.
3. The Chloe Baylee bag was in my wish list and went on sale. They also have it in a pretty blue color, but it isn't on sale. I like the Baylee style better than the Chloe Marcie bag (shown in the same color) because it zips closed. I hate a bag that doesn't zip securely at the top. Cashmere Gray is a neutral color and goes with my down puffer coat. I expect it will go with the DVF red coat as well. It's well constructed. It has a cross-body strap. The straps are substantial and thick. The size is perfect for everyday use. I suspect this bag will be a work horse.

I think my biggest question is about the Opening Ceremony bag? Should I keep it? What about the Chloe bag? Are they different enough from each other to justify keeping both? If I only kept one which should it be? (Don't think about price.)
